Poetry – feelings are among my “favorite things”

I have been feeling very emotional the past few days. Sad, excited, melancholy, fearful, joyous, bored, aggravated. At first I thought , so much for the Grand Water Trines and Star of David astrological configurations that have been gracing our planet. Then I came to the realization that water is emotion and plenty of water equals plenty of emoting. How individuals respond to transits will vary. One must consider more than the boiler plate definition of a transit or a planet such as a trine is good or Saturn is bad. Everyone is unique and even people born in the same hospital at the same time are going to process energy differently. So I conveniently forgot about over – emotionalism and focused on glittery mystical manifestations. So you live and learn!

Then I went with cellphone in hand on a short nature walk. You know the drill, take a stroll and be open to what appears. So coming round the bend I spot a few Eastern Tiger Swallowtails. Oh how excited I was to see these adventurous spirits once more!

As I got closer I noticed much activity among the various butterflies and bees. I made many attempts to shoot some male Swallowtails ( they do not have the blue markings of the female) without success. Once they got cozy and settled, my movements ruffled their wings and off they went. This was not a stillness moment at all. Once I realized that I was invading their space, I became a bit more detached and was able to produce this one shot:

It was wonderfully liberating to photograph my first butterfly. A Facebook friend ( and actual friend) recently shared his swallowtail online and I must say it fired up my motivation to do the same. During the walk I contemplated that my intrusion may have threatened the butterflies’ freedom and security. I so love both freedom and security and some of my emotionality has to do with balancing both of these aspects in my daily life. The song ” Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music came to mind as I returned home. It could be a pre-cursor to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy since the premise is to replace old tapes with new positive thoughts. Yet replacing thoughts that no longer serve you is not the same as blocking or stuffing down emotions. Emotions are vital messages that need your focus and attention. Once they are acknowledged and embraced, they are free to trail off like the butterflies on a warm summer evening.

While reflecting later on emotions and mindfulness, the song  Feel This Moment popped in my head. I really prefer to embrace and feel my feelings so they can serve their purpose and then dissolve. Feelings are such a gift and my nature is very watery with a Scorpio stellium, Moon in the 4th house, Mars in Cancer and a very prominent Neptune.

During this part of the post I always introduce some complementary , random poetry. In light of the emotional tone set today, I decided instead to include The Guest House by Rumi. It is a favorite of mine and is prominently placed on my refrigerator door. I have it placed there to remind me that every experience I encounter is a lesson to be learned.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Regardless of where these transits take you, please remember that victim consciousness is a choice. You can always be active in your life by accepting and feeling your way through.

What are some of your favorite things?

How have you been feeling the past few days?

Do you judge or deny your emotional state of being?

How do you balance security and freedom?

      1. I saw it but the guidelines are too general for me. Perhaps more importantly, I’m way behind in reading and commenting because I’m so busy with home inspections. That, of course, is good, because business slows down in November and December. Gotta make enough money now to pay the bills in November, December, and January………lol

  2. Ulp…butterflies again! lol
I’ve been feeling alternatively tired, a little cranky, like I’m losing control of something, hyped up and then the cycle occurs again!
My favourite things are colours!!! and books!!! (and Colin Farrell…lol)

I’m trying not to judge myself too much and I would like to think I’m progressing…baby steps but you know…those are the best sorts 😉

I do love Rumi…and it’s true isn’t it? When we realize that we are all of whom we are..every facet, every emotion, every nuance…we will welcome it and be grateful for them because they are there to teach us and help us peel the layers of ourselves to finally show the whole of us…:)

      1. Yes, it has great meaning and a catchy melody. Have you heard Mirror by Justin Timberlake, very deep lyrics and melodic. Also Blurred lines, not real spiritually inclined but great beat 🙂

  3. Such gentle, accepting vibes your post is transmitting.

I love you affirming the code of transformation to many in this world these days: “Yet replacing thoughts that no longer serve you is not the same as blocking or stuffing down emotions. Emotions are vital messages that need your focus and attention. Once they are acknowledged and embraced, they are free to trail off like the butterflies on a warm summer evening.”

      1. THIS reply is correct…:D (sorry again)

By now as I know what security and freedom mean to me on a deep level, and all their personal connections, I use special affirmations and energy transmissions/energy meditation on moment-to-moment or day-today basis. I have also accepted that I´m more security oriented these days, than I used to be. But still, when I feel free I also feel being safe and secure (I mean, that´s the value order of them to myself). My main values are freedom, love, freedom. I do routine things like washing dishes, housecleaning, computer things, and so on, for getting grounded (for feeling secure). Physical exercise and walking in the nature and by the sea does both to me: I feel free, I feel secure. Or I look mindfully at the starry sky or a video from youtube about the vastness of the universe to get perspective (to feel free in one of its meanings, to free the mind, to expand). When I´m balanced and centered in general, I am free, I feel secure and all the other good qualities are present as well, such as confidence and inner peace. So, when I´m balanced and centered I have everything. 🙂 )

      2. thank you for such a descriptive reply 🙂 I also use the mundane as potential times for mindfulness and grounding. Feeling balanced and grounded is so important on so many levels.

    1. Hey I told you I would get back on this. I was in the midst of processing my Emotional Se-Points via Abraham Hicks when I read this and was just too tired to put it all into words. Today when I posted Allow on my blog, I felt it responded to your post. I have posted that Rumi poem before as well, its a really good one.

      Here is my post Allow.
