11 Day Clearing ~ This too shall pass

I am a Scorpio type, through and through. Pluto is the modern planet that rules Scorpio  and regardless of recent events, Pluto remains a full-fledged planet. Pluto represents transformation. This involves excavation of the soul. The sprinkling of fairy dust and a few affirmations will not do! This is getting into the trenches and battling for the light.

I have a metaphor in mind that hits somewhat close to home. It reflects poorly on my domestic skills but I decided it was worth sharing. My cat Dexter keeps growing and growing but my living space has appeared to shrink ( due to years of accumulating books, stuff, more books, other stuff, books, etc. ) My tiny bathroom is where I keep the litter box. His litter box was small because of the space and he seemed to be fine with it.  I also will confess that I could clean it out more often. Dexter has a new prescription diet because of serious health issues. This has changed his litter box habits and let us say product. I began to notice that his litter box became a box of sludge! I spoke to the vet and he was not concerned. Dexter is thriving with the new diet and I am grateful. But cleaning the sludge has been quite cathartic for me.

Sometimes this image has entered my dream life and it has caused me to reflect. I have concluded that the more I grow and take risks and follow my path, the more shadows appear. My negative thoughts become more obvious and destructive.  People from my past appear in different states of consciousness, such as dream states, parallel realms, Facebook, and ” regular ” waking life! Physical symptoms appear in more bizarre forms. Like an onion, there are infinite layers to my psyche and my evolution. I have been buying onions recently and enjoyed chopping them and adding them to many dishes. I am making this connection as I type this sentence – love when that happens.

This may seem paradoxical but it is not the case. As I have told many clients, when we do the inner work, life often gets harder than before. I see this very clearly as I continue to excavate. Fortunately the shadows are accompanied by miracles in the form of insights, creativity, love, friendship, and grace. And on it goes …..

I have since bought Dexter a huge litter box and I was still able to keep it in the bathroom. There seems to be less sludge. I am working on other ways to clear out my sludge. Does this mean that I am ascending spiritually? I wish I knew.  I can say with confidence that there are rewards for living in the moment, prayer, meditation, dream work, discarding what is no longer useful, and grieving what appears to be lost.  Spirals also comes to mind when I ponder clearing and renewal. There is no linear and there is no there.

As a final note: The band U2 released an album  All That You Can’t Leave Behind in 2001. When I first heard the song Stuck in a Moment while watching the video, I thought the song was created to promote healing for a national tragedy. Turns out it was written long before then,  but released about the same time as the tragedy. Coincidence ??  It came to me while I  was contemplating today’s challenge. Please listen to it carefully and see if you agree that it is perfectly suited for clearing and healing.

  1. So true! I can relate to the onion metaphor. And that all the shadows must be looked at and then released. Ignoring or suppressing won’t help. By the act of witnessing the shadows we are disidentifying from them, and that is what the spiritual path is about.

    I am reblogging this gem from the archives as I “stumbled” upon it now and it really describes my present state of being. I offer it for now, until I am present enough to post some new material. While my attitude about shadow work has shifted since this was written, I still agree that recognizing fears and other dark aspects of our nature leads us closer to integration. And integration leads to peace.

    When these things happen to me I feel like I’m slipping back…and that I’m not actually doing any inner work 😦
    But reading the way you put that…is so awesome!! 😀

    Sindy’s Clearing number 11 has resulted in some awesome posts!!! I’m nervous and a little excited about my turn..hehehe

    The video is so beautifully done!!! And I was reading the words as the songs played…and yes it is a hard message to listen to especially when we are stuck in our rut because it is we who choose to play the victim and prefer the comfort that that dark hole provides us, and we really need to just get it together and take a deep breath and climb out of the rut. I know how that feels…and though it seemed SO hard and the rut SO deep….looking back, it really wasn’t because I made it out!! 😀

    1. we have all been there, I have numerous times, but like a spiral when I return to the same place I have a wee bit more momentum and I spiral up eventually.

  16. Thank you Linda, for this thoughtful and thought-provoking post. I resonate with what you’re saying. I like your thoughts about the spiral – I have tried to eradicate the concept of “walking on a path”, or even – being on a journey which connotes “getting somewhere”. Any my Scorpio heart leaps in recognition!

      It is great to see your comment here! I still use the terms path and journey but they do imply a linear route with an expected destination. I agree that a spiral is a better description of our travels. Thank you for your validation of my message. The Scorpio way is not an easy one, but it can be quite fulfilling!

  17. Funny Linda, I was thinking about the onion when I wrote my post and almost when in to edit an add it, and then just let it ride. So yes, yes, yes, I agree! Each layer and then there is another, and another, some thick some thin, and funny I just went out for beer and an onion. Yeah really.

    Also the song is very perfect and it feels applicable. Lovely, lovely post Linda! It so deep and heartfelt. You know I love ya girl!

    1. Hi Sindy,
      This was a difficult topic to blog , but it seems to be well received so it was worth some angst! I love onions in tuna or salmon salad and in pasta sauce, etc… I guess the onion was prominent in the collective unconscious lately. I love this song and the entire album is great. Even the title is about letting go. The title track is amazing too and very dark. In any event, sometimes we encounter some sludge that needs scooping,

  18. Lovely post! There seem to be endless layers of the “onions”! 🙂
    On the practical/mundane level…what kind of kitty litter do you use? Have you tried The World’s Best Cat Litter? It’s organic/bio-degradable and also flushable (so less cleaning for you!) and it clumps nicely, so hopefully less sludge.

      I am not able to flush litter, even wih flushable litter – have had some plumbing difficulites so now I must keep the lid down all the time so Dexter doesn’t throw some in!

      lots of hassles but he is sooo worth it!

  19. Great post, Linda. I am actually going through similar stuff due to some progressions I’m experiencing. I do have a strong Pluto in my chart and I have occasional bouts of frenzied cleaning. I literally turn my whole place upside down, it’s very cathartic.

    1. Thanks Monika. For me I think it is Saturn transit approaching my Scorpio stuff and Pluto transit approaching my Saturn, fun!

      even without the transits, I periodically clean and sort and revisit old letters, pictures, colllege papers, cards, and also rearrange things. Sometimes I do not enjoy it but I need to do it!
