I looked just like this as a teen.
I wanted to post this in time for her birthday, but time got away from me. Yet it is never too late to acknowledge the brilliance of Linda Ronstadt.
Summer always reminds me of my time at the shore as a teenager. My teen years always remind me of music. When I was a teen, Linda Ronstadt’s music was very popular. People always told me that I reminded them of her. And they were correct…
I cannot sing a lick, although I spent many an hour as a teen singing in the mirror with a hairbrush as my mike. I was quite flattered when people compared me to Linda. We are both named Linda and I did wear bangs at one time and I do still occasionally favor hoop earrings. What is most striking is how the shape of our faces, coloring ,long dark hair and facial features bear an uncanny resemblance. While I was perusing images of her online, I was amazed at how eerily similar we look, while never at the same time. She is much older than I, and as we both aged, our likeness became less apparent. But even still, some of my current photos do still bear an obvious similarity.
What brought Linda Ronstadt to my awareness recently was her induction into the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The HBO concert was spectacular and I blogged about Cat Stevens’ performance here. Linda did not show up at the ceremony, probably because these type of events are not a priority and due to her recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. I was saddened to hear about her poor health which has affected her ability to sing. Glenn Frey’s speech at the concert was very moving and the images of her performing made me smile and tear up simultaneously. Linda and I come from similar ethnic backgrounds and that became obvious as her story was shared on stage. We both share a Latin ( I am Italian and she is Mexican) and Western European heritage. It somewhat explains how our ancestry informed our physical appearance and identity. I write about my identity here.
Naturally I read her chart to see why we look so similar. She has Sag rising, which does not jive with my chart. However her Sun in Cancer gives her a lunar appearance ( round face) and my Moon trines my ascendant. More significant is that Neptune squares her ascendant ( as does mine) and Uranus opposes it as well, adding a strong Aquarian vibe to her persona ( matching my Aquarius ascendant). This would help explain some her luminous, ethereal presence ( Neptune) and her striking image ( Uranus).

While I found these linkages helpful, I was looking for something more… Why do we look so much alike and have the same first name and why did I look the most like her when she rose to prominence? Her north and south nodes are conjunct my Moon and exactly conjunct Venus respectively. This may indicate some past life or spiritual connections that bring her into my consciousness so strongly. I cannot prove any linkage, but …..
Since I do not post my picture on my blog, you can visualize Linda Ronstadt when you read my posts. Oh how I wish I was blessed with a voice that contains even a fraction of her beauty and grace. Fortunately I can always play her music and revel in her pioneering spirit that paved the way for so many women in music, and her ability to use her vocal gifts to transcend stereotyping and move across genres.

I’m very happy to see your post, and ‘meet’ your near look-alike! Marching to the beat of your own drum, eh? I appreciate your post and your tribute to Linda Ronstadt, and your surprising commonality with her. She looks so familiar to me, and yet, I haven’t really been familiar with her music. Do you think she has a timeless face? I do.
I used to play guitar and sing when I was 16. I was never into “showing my face,” or “being known.” Ironic for a Leo, huh? Well, we live with this…I attribute it to my Cancer Moon. Shy. I wasn’t very eager to play at any of the coffee shops. I preferred watching other people shine – thanks to my Aquarius ascendant, more comfortable that way.
I think I’m often impressed by people who can “be themselves” even with all those public eyes peeled to an image/celebrity, etc. Lots of Aquarius/Leo energy going on this weekend. I found myself asking the question: Why would anyone “want” to be famous? The moon often indicates “the public” in a person’s astrological chart. Linda’s moon is in Aquarius – maybe her audience felt aloof to her or vice versa. You know her better 😉

Thanks for such an insightful comment Ka. No I di dnot date George Lucas, or Jerry Brown lol! I think she has very soulful eyes. Mine are not as large as hers. She has that Sag Ascendant which adds fire and spark as well. I think her moon in Aquarius means friendly but detached. Many with that placement have tons of folks around but don’t do intimacy that well. I don’t think I would handle fame well, but wonder what that lifestyle would look like..

Linda loved your post about Linda Ronstadt, and although I have heard of her.. Can not say I was a fan here in the UK..We each have our own various Pop idols as teens.. And now I can at least get to visualise how you may look LOL.. ..
The nearest to fame as a teen I got was to be shouted after as Twiggy, the top British model in the 60’s.. Not because of my resemblance in looks.. oh no.. This was merely due to the fact I was a skinny as a stick!.. 🙂 😀 ..
Its always good to walk in our own shoes .. I am happy you are the Linda I have come to know through blog land.. and it matters not if you can not sing.. Your tune is of another key all together.. A gift from the Stars! no less.. 🙂

Love Linda, Blue Bayou always a fave, and I love how Neil described her as the ‘girl with the soulful eyes’. I heard she was fighting illness and for many years wouldn’t leave the south to tour before that. Hmm..so second house moon in a grand air trine, not too surprising, such power in her voice with that Mars Pluto too. Thanks for mentioning Linda, I love seeing her chart, have sung along with her for years – I love to sing, have since a kid. Also interesting she always bucked ‘the system’ did music ::she loved:: rather than what execs were pushing her to record.
I resemble Chrissie Hynde which pleases me to no end. !

Thank you for such a wonderful expression of love to someone I truly wanted to marry when I was a teenager!! I am saddened by her suffering and grateful that I got to see her, Dolly and the real, real true love of my life, Emmylou, perform. I think some of Emmylou’s early stuff with Rodney Crowell, Albert Lee and the rest of the Hot Band is some of the best Americana music ever. Gram Parsons lives through that music!!

Can’t sing a note here, either, though I still wonder how I “made” the choral group in high school. Then again, I had hair like hers too. It was the 70’s. 🙂

I suppose you are right. I was also in Chorus in Junior High and have no idea how that happened! We sang songs from Tommy as I recall. I would like to see you with her hairstyle and yes, it was common back then.

Your post really resonates with me. Although I am not as huge of a fan of Linda Ronstadt, I was often told as a child that I resembled Haley Mills. I think I really did look like her when I was 11 or so. But along with the resemblance, I always felt a kinship with her spunky personality, especially in Parent Trap and The Trouble With Angels.
I think it’s a blessing to have someone out there who you feel such likeness to, yes?
I also was told that I look a lot like Arlo Guthrie, lol. Maybe as a teen…
