SoundBath ~ bubbles of awakening

So let me tell you about my weekend.

Finally I can put 2 thoughts together semi-coherently. I slept so much better last night and that can make a difference. What, with glass breaking and lamps flickering and , my body aching and making odd movements.

Cannot blame this all on caffeine, sorry. Today is National Coffee Day in the USA and did you know I love caffeine, especially in coffee? While I can go weeks or more at a time without it when my stomach needs a break, my mind seems sharper with caffeine in my system.

But I digress, so back to the odd happenings. First off, my body does not always react in a way that I can understand. It will occasionally make jerky movements, manifest weird aches and pains, etc.  I went to my trusty doctor when these symptoms began.  After I was checked out, he assured me that I did not have anything like Parkinson’s.  I often lean towards the worst case scenarios , but am working on correcting it. My buddy Robert years back suggested it may be the kundalini awakening.  I have done some reading and discussed it with a few folks and still don’t understand it. If you are so inclined to share some insights about it, please leave me a message in comments. You can also email me if you prefer to do so privately. I would really appreciate what others have to say about this phenomenon.

I went to a Sound Bath on Saturday evening as Mercury made its ingress into Scorpio. The lovely sound healer Katryn was visiting after moving away to Santa Fe. I was pleasantly surprised to hear from her about this chance to gather with a group to bathe in the energies of her magical singing bowls. I had met her when I took a short class on sound healing a few years ago. I shortly thereafter started attending the monthly Sound Baths. Sometimes she asked me to give an astrological forecast for the group, which was very generous. These  brief talks helped build my confidence in speaking publicly on astrology. Her friend Tracie the life alchemist and nature channel was often part of the circle. I plan to blog on my session with her in the future. The sound healing groups were always unique and positive for me. But this one was incredibly dramatic.

I don’t know if it is because I have changed or she has changed or we both have changed or if the beautiful new gathering space made an impact. I just know that the ripples are with me still.

So here are the highlights ~

I saw green and lavender light, per usual. But then it morphed into a striking dark purple. Similar to this image :

"ScorpionFog". Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 via Wikimedia Commons -

I also saw camels and birds in flight and fairies.

The thoughts were even more intriguing.

I got the impression that the forest and jungle live inside me. WOW!!

Then I began to think about the earth. I focused on the letters and noticed that EARTH spells HEART. I made a connection between the green lights I see in meditation and the heart chakra. Then I made another leap where I connected the functioning of the heart and earth are one and we can heal the EARTH like we fix a poorly functioning heart. Some ideas like reducing stress, joyful movement, less fat ( materialism), love, stillness, and quitting smoking ( end of military actions and violence) came to mind. This seemed to be important for me to record later when I returned home. I also remembered that earlier in the week I was thinking about the Hands across America event I participated in back in 1986. It was in the wake of LiveAid when some consciousness was directed towards global charity and unity. Check out the video here.

I recalled an image I chose for my 111 Global Party post. It is the Earth in a heart ( see below)

I really felt energized and had no need to talk about it, which is unusual for me. I gave Katryn a hug and thanked her and went to my car. As I turned on my car radio, I searched for a song to match my mood. Within seconds I found Right Here Right NOW. Some of you know I use the car radio as an oracle.  This song was stellar! It was written about how the planet was changing due to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Cold War, but it still applies. The music confirmed that I was plugged into the Source. I felt so high and timeless and free!

I also found a brilliant video blogger that day and we communicated when I returned home. I invite you all to meet Sarah. She is incredibly charismatic and pure. Please visit her and learn about her journey. She communicates in a way that is very natural and compelling. She could be a future thought leader. You heard it here first.

I slept so poorly and yesterday was unbalanced. I broke a glass candle holder all over my kitchen floor and cut my toe badly. I also noticed that one lamp continued flickering all evening long. In the past, this would translate into a physical birth or death or the need to replace a lamp! The confluence of electricity in the air certainly caught my attention.

What is really odd is that I am still feeling the effects of the Sound Bath. In the past any discernible changes would fade after a few hours.

Is it the Grand Fire Trine? Am I ascending? I don’t know, but at the very least I figured that these Sound Bath “bubbles” would make a decent post. Perhaps I will continue my meditation practice.

Another Fall in Philadelphia

It is only fitting that I post about this Hall and Oates song on the first full day of fall, here in Philadelphia. This version with Diane Birch is from Live from Daryl’s House. I moved to this city to start the fall semester of my senior year at Temple University, so it is an anniversary theme of sorts. My trip to University City last week really reminded me of those first days of freedom and adventure in a new city and new state ( Though I did live in Reading , PA  as a child).

The first time I heard this song on the radio while living in Philly was very special to me because it was in early autumn. I told myself I would hear it every year on the radio as a way to usher in the season and mark my life in this amazing city. For a few years I did hear it annually, but eventually the frequency dwindled. But now we have Pandora and YouTube so I can listen to it or watch a video as long as I have a decent wi-fi signal!

The song’s message is actually very dark in nature, but the music is very upbeat with some folksy, twangy guitar licks and jazzy horns. Like so much in life, it is a juxtaposition of energies blended into one.

Here are some pictures that were taken close to my past and present neighborhoods ( by Wikipedia, not me) that closely reflect the beauty of my home with the stunning old architecture, splashes of color, and natural splendor. Philly really rocks, pun intended!

West Philly ( just a couple blocks away from my first apartment)

Wissahickon Creek ( near my current neighborhood ) free domain

Residential Chestnut Hill ( a classic home ” On the Hill ” )

I could wax poetic about the history and majesty of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. I could brag as many Phila-files do, about the Quaker roots, substantial native american history, the Founding Fathers ( where are the Mothers?) forming of an experimental American government, the first capital of the US, the name – Brotherly Love, but you already knew all about it. We brag about and trash the city all the time, its kind of an unspoken tradition.  I honestly never expected to live in any one place for so long, but here I am. I was born in New York City, but my roots are truly here. However, I am really very different from the young woman who moved into this incredible city with a college friend and her room-mate from Penn. I am so much more who I am meant to be, but with many more scars and broken dreams.

So where is the spiritual angle? Where is the lite in the ordinary?

Let’s just say that this calendar year of 2014 is just beginning as far as I am concerned. With Mars and then Saturn retrograde for most of the year, and Saturn weighing me down as he straddled all of my Scorpio planets, New Year’s day for me has not happened yet! I would say that it will start in early November after the Mercury retrograde post shadow has ended. We are currently in the pre shadow period which happens before Mercury makes his latest foray backward on October 4th. Yes, that again!  Maybe I will use my birthday in early November ( solar return ) to celebrate a true forward motion.

So I have a few days after tomorrow’s Libra new moon to experience new beginnings before the slowdown is again in full gear. Coincidentally ( or not) Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish New Year, begins tomorrow evening at sunset. I do appreciate that many religious and cultural holy days are in alignment with the lunar cycle.

NOW is all we have, so today is like a second-hand New Year’s Eve if I choose it to be. Cycles are in motion constantly, from the microscopic, cellular and quantum level to the universal, cosmic level. Most of them we are not even aware of, but that does not make them any less significant.

Think about it, while I notice the leaves turning yellow while daylight slips away and the black sky entertains streaks of pink and purple. hint – that is where the lite resides.

It is fall again, in Philadelphia….

Update : Just discovered a great article about Philly that really illustrates the heart.

Joan Rivers – Gemini and Scorpio together

Intense Scorpio and flippant Gemini are so antithetical that they might as well be from two different planets, if not two different dimensions altogether. They do,  however, have one thing in common. Both signs possess excellent situational awareness.

Matt Savinar ~ Watching the Watchers – The Cryptic Charts of the NSA and Edward Snowden, The Mountain Astrologer Magazine

US free domain

I find my Sun/ Moon combo to be elusive. I have my Sun in Scorpio with the Moon in Gemini in a biquintile aspect. The biquintile is 144 degrees and is defined as a double quintile ( 72 degrees) A quintile takes the 360 degree wheel and divides it by five so the biquintile takes up 2/5ths of the wheel. The quintile family is purported to be the aspect of gifts and talents. Perhaps it is so. The biquintile probably functions most of the time in my life like an inconjunct ( 150 degrees) which is like 2 ships passing in the night and never meeting. Or a square peg in a round hole. Just not quite there. I have made adjustments over the years to accommodate both influences.

What is it about these energies that intrigue me so? Both Mercury and Pluto are forever in motion and catalyzing change. They operate differently and at opposite speed, but are the Magicians and Alchemists of the Zodiac. Don’t be fooled by the charm, wit, or flirtatiousness, there is much more happening behind the mystique.

Yet one of my astrology teachers stressed the similarities between Gemini and Scorpio, particularly curiosity. I do see this passion to uncover mysteries mundane and esoteric to be a lifelong theme in my journey. Then The Mountain Astrologer did a fascinating piece on Edward Snowden and the  NSA. Check out his Gemini Sun and Ascendant paired with a Scorpio Moon. The NSA has a Scorpio Sun and a Gemini Moon. Don’t worry about me though, my computer skills are quite rudimentary!

Some notable Sun Scorpio, Moon Gemini individuals: Bonnie Raitt,  Goldie Hawn, Roseanne Barr, Grace Slick, Christopher Noth ( Mr. Big on Sex and the City), Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Auguste Rodin, Lamar Odom, ( we share a birthday) John Keats

Gemini Sun, Scorpio Moon: Edward Snowden, Elizabeth Hurley, Leah Remini, Alanis Morrisette, Isadora Duncan, Priscilla Presley, John Wayne, Miles Davis, Ron Wood, Mark Wahlberg, Diego Velazquez

While I continue to operate in Dark Moon Virgo, Pluto Stationing, Pre-Equinox mode, I clear out gunk from my home and mind, replay the sadness and grief when it gets triggered by the outside environment, read my dreams, and reboot my meditation practice. I also find time to re-examine aspects of myself that require a fresh perspective.

The passing of  comedy icon Joan Rivers has been a catalyst in my examination of Scorpionic and Mercurial forces. Stay with me, this may take a while! I really grieved the loss of Joan Rivers. For the entire week before her death, I kept checking the internet to get updates on her status. I was keeping vigil at my laptop, paralyzed with uncertainty.  I began watching clips of her performances on TV and online. When she finally passed I cried deeply. What is my connection to this woman?

Answering this question led me to the delicate dance between Gemini and Scorpio. Joan’s life really accentuates the relationship between The phoenix and the twins.

Personal anecdote: I remember sighting Joan and her daughter Melissa as a child. I was vacationing in Miami for Christmas, which was a family ritual. We spent time with my mom’s family who had relocated to Florida years ago. I don’t know how I knew of Joan at that young age, but she and her young daughter were hanging out in the shopping area of the Deauville Hotel ( or perhaps the Carillon) on Collins Ave. I wanted to walk up to them, but did not have the nerve. They seemed so normal. They are both from Brooklyn and so am I. My mom still speaks with a Brooklyn accent. They seemed so close and I longed for that type of bond. Yet we moved away and so did Joan and Melissa. I remained interested in them ever since.

If you are not familiar with Joan Rivers, visit her site.

Note: If you are wondering how or why I occasionally attract celebrities into my orbit ( Jerry Seinfeld walked me down the aisle), it has to be Pluto in the 7th. I do plan to blog about this placement in the near future so stay tuned.

Joan and Johnny: a tale of humor and betrayal

One theme that repeatedly emerged after scouring hours of footage is the impact of Joan’s relationship with Johnny Carson. She repeatedly discussed their break-up after his refusal to accept that she took a job as host for a competing late night talk show on the Fox network. While she was trashing his treatment of her, in the very next breath she would praise him for giving her a start and making her a star. Very Gemini- like indeed! He apparently never forgave her and it broke her heart. While watching images of her and Johnny together, I noticed a strong connection and a symmetry. Could there have been a secret romance? Or was I just witnessing their mutual Gemini Scorpio essences at play?

Joan has a Sun Mercury and Venus in Gemini in the 3rd house. Her catchphrase was ” Can we talk? ” Priceless! She was a skilled communicator who exhibited a mulit-faceted personality. Her moon in Sag in the 9th propelled her to speak the truth and do it with fierceness, vulgarity, and brutal honesty. She made us laugh and she made us think. Aries rising was quite prominent in her chart.  The chart ruler Mars was part of a Mars Jupiter Neptune stellium in the 6th house of work. health, service. She was devoted to her charity work in addition to maintaining her non-stop career. This stellium opposed Saturn in Aquarius in the 11th and squared her Sun in the 3rd. Fear of losing the crowd was a constant threat as was her fear of being different. With Uranus in the first, I think she just wanted to fit in and kept augmenting her physical appearance to be accepted by the masses. Pluto squared Uranus and it is interesting that she passes during the current Pluto square Uranus cycle. While she lacks Scorpio planets, Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio and it dominates her chart. Her chart Mars rules her 8th house and 8th house matters seemed to predominate her life. Death and sex and shared assets seemed to be areas of initial vulnerability and eventual mastery over the course of her 81 years.

The ever – charming yet elusive talk show legend Johnny Carson also embodies the Scorpio /Gemini dynamic. Sun and Ascendant in Scorpio with Mercury conjunct  Saturn on the Ascendant, this comedian used his dry sense of humor to both charm and disarm the masses for decades. He often played a magician in many of his late night skits. Interesting that Mercury rules his 8th house as well. Pluto opposes his Moon Jupiter in Capricorn in the 3rd house. There were several marriages and problems with alcohol, in addition to the tragic loss of his son. I suspect there was plenty of loneliness and pain behind the veil, just like with Joan.

They share a Moon ( 17 degrees) Venus ( 13 degrees) conjunction in Sagittarius. His love of spontaneity and excitement( Venus in Sag) allowed her to feel comfortable and at ease ( Moon in Sag) and as a result, her essence really shined through. This aspect often shows up in the synastry of long-term marriages and romances, so even if nothing romantic ever happened between them, they did share a deep affection for many years.

Joan the shapeshifter/ survivor : a master class in resilience

Joan rebelled against her parents’ wishes and pursued becoming an entertainer. One appearance on the Johnny Carson show changed her life. Her first marriage was annulled and she married her second husband after just knowing him a short time. Edgar Rosenberg managed her career and was a loving husband and father to their one child Melissa. He committed suicide shortly after he and Joan were let go from Joan’s late night talk show on Fox. He chose to do this in Philadelphia where Melissa was in college. Clearly his actions and the aftermath devastated Joan.  Her marriage was gone and her career was floundering. Yet she pulled herself together and reinvented herself. She continued to do so for the remainder of her life. She sold jewelry and fashion on QVC, had a daytime talk show, performed as an actress in film ( with Burt Lancaster) and in theater.  She was a best-selling author and was the subject of a well-received documentary. She eventually began interviewing celebrities on the red carpet at awards shows and this venture combined fashion and entertainment in a novel way. She was recently appearing on 2 reality shows ( tv and online) and starred on Fashion Police. She was incredibly resilient and her moon in Sag helped her appreciate the pleasures of life.

Joan the lightworker: healing through laughter, wisdom through pain

I was able to conclude that comedians are among the most unhappy and troubled individuals on the planet. But what an amazing array of gifts do they bring to the collective table. Joan Rivers sparkled and rattled the cages of safety and inertia by challenging us to defy obstacles and release sorrow through laughter. Scientific studies show again and again the healing potential of laughter and Joan was among the best healers out there. She was an incredibly intelligent woman who was a trailblazer and ” Joan Ranger”, who blazed a trail for ambitious woman everywhere. Behind the jester’s mask was a loving, determined, loyal, tenacious spirit who lived life with gusto. She utilized her profound capacity for situational awareness with such aplomb. Hermes, Mercury, Mars, and Pluto all are applauding with approval I am certain.

When all is said and done, she gave much more back to us than she received. I am making her an honorary litebeing because she devoted her time here to orchestrating the magic of joy and transforming tragedy and loss into a vibrant source of healing. She was an alchemist for our times.

peace, litebeing

I have been spending a fair amount of time retrieving my heart’s desires. As I forge a new career path ( again), I am driven to resuscitate forgotten longings and dreams from my childhood. Now is truly the time. Now is all there is.

I probably fashioned myself a visual artist before anything else. It may have been in preschool or kindergarten.  Astrology and writing quickly followed, around 1st or 2nd grade. With drawing and painting, it was never about money or status. Just love of beauty. I rarely create this way anymore as I am more motivated to write than draw or paint. But occasionally , the mood hits me.

This crayon piece was created first with my eyes closed. I had a lovely vision and wanted to capture it in form. Like what happens so often in life, the creative process moved me to transform my vision into something slightly different. This was completed over the course of a few weeks. I added the finishing touches earlier today.

I invite you to weigh in.

What do you see in the piece?

What emotions does it evoke in you?

What would you call it?

East Africa in West Philly ~ Traversing Time and Space

I had a very important meeting today in my old college neighborhood. It is called University City because Drexel University and The University of Pennsylvania are located there. I moved away many years ago, but still have so many fond memories. Sometimes work or a social event will bring me back, but I have not visited in a few years. The last time I was there it was a very sad occasion. I went with a coworker to visit a former client of ours who was receiving hospice care. She died a few days later.  She was not much older than I, but was dying of uterine cancer that was diagnosed way too late. She had schizophrenia and this contributed to her death. Her caretaker did not believe her when she told her she was bleeding. I did all I could to advocate for her, but it was not enough. Her paranoia interfered with her willingness to receive tests and accept care. She was my favorite client and she had an outrageous sense of humor. And what a smile, unforgettable. She also shared my grandmother’s name. She was both delusional and telepathic. Her family said she had the gift of prophecy and she did indeed. She passed about 3 years ago, but her essence is still very much alive.

The meeting I attended was to discuss a research opportunity to work with people who are newly diagnosed as psychotic. This early intervention initiative started in Australia and Europe.  Later on a study was created on the West coast. Now start-ups are developing in Philadelphia and a few other cities in the Eastern United States. This is just the first step. I told the interviewer that I wanted to work with people where there is promise and hope.  She seemed to get it. Now I go on with my life and wait to see what happens.

I could not help but think of my beloved client on the ride home. But I was not going home quite yet. There was a pinball arcade to check out ( only 2 machines). Then I cruised by all the buildings where I once lived. The area has changed, but not really. There are new layers of activity superimposed on the old. I was in need of a lift. Plus I was really hungry. So I went to the Red Sea.

Now it’s called Abyssinia, but to me it will always be the Red Sea. It was about 3 blocks from my very first apartment and I got hooked on their food right away. The website does not show a photo of the food so I will provide one:

This is a mandala of culinary bliss! The beige bread that lines the plate is called injera, a spongy pancake- like creation that is sour and tangy. It soaks up all the flavors and is just incredibly yummy. For more about injera, check out Ka’s post here.  I had a combo which included several meat and veggie dishes with some salad layered on top. It is served with extra injera on the side. You eat your meal with your hands by taking a piece of injera and using it to scoop up the food. I also ordered a Kenyan beer to go with my meal. Ethiopian food is very spicy and the beer helps keep the heat in check.

This is my absolute favorite cuisine. I had my go-to dish ~ doro wat – tender chicken in berbere sauce with a hard-boiled egg. It is truly the circle of life! I also had crunchy collard greens that tasted so fresh, a beef dish, a lamb( goat) curry, a split pea stew and a lentil dish. The veggies are smooth in texture and mild in flavor. The meal is reminiscent of a paint palette and you concoct unique tastes and colors and textures with every bite. The beer I selected seemed unpleasant at first, but after a little while it married with the food and all the flavors cooperated. Salty, bitter, peppery, tangy, dense, clean, complex, creamy, crunchy, fermented, earthy, smooth, acidic, chewy, etc. I was so at ease with this meal. We were one. No other way to explain it.

I gazed around the dining room and remembered my various dinner partners from the past. I could only find a few folks who would try this food with me. One of my most romantic evenings ever was spent here with my ‘soulmate’ on a whim. We drove from my new neighborhood back here just to eat at this restaurant. We fell in love in West Philly, so I guess it was only fitting. I am not sure why this night was so special, but it was. We liked trying new things and reading evocative books and discussing ideas that were nontraditional. We liked adventure and were forever curious.

I wonder why I feel more comfortable with foreign cultures than my own. As I scooped up the stews with my injera, I wondered if I was once Ethiopian. When I was watching Top Model, of all things ,Tyra Banks gave the contestants DNA kits. They will be used to determine everyone’s ethnicity. It amazes me that for $100 you can send your saliva to a lab and in return you can unlock the mysteries of your origins.  I have been wanting to do this for years. It might answer some unresolved questions like why oh why do so many strangers ask me if I am Native American? I would be honored to discover that I have some indigenous blood running through my veins. The test would not determine past lives, but I hope it would help me understand more of my identity, including my foreign food preferences. Mars is in Sagittarius now and it is a fine time to explore what is exotic and unusual.

I hope this post is not too circuitous to understand. Today was an important day for so many reasons, some I have yet to discover. But I wanted to describe my meal while the spices still lingered in my mouth, before the flavors left me. I also wanted to honor the thousands of people who die before their time due to chronic mental illness. Perhaps most of all I wanted to stress that it is never the wrong time to treat your Self to a great meal, a relaxing drive, or a glimpse of an old love.

My 200th Post ~ Power in Action

200 posts!

WordPress tells me that this will be my 200th post and I am astonished! It is worthy of a celebration. So I say let’s celebrate the power of creation. While Mars is still in Scorpio, power seems to be a timely topic.

I have often contemplated the true meaning of power and the best definition I have is

 to influence

I have given this a tremendous deal of thought and I stand by it for now. I could tell you what I used to associate with power, but I rather not. I am satisfied with my present definition and I think it is helpful as we continue to organize ourselves more as a collective force on this planet.

So now what? Well, the collective will stems from the projections of each individual. OK. So this particular individual meditated tonight and happily got into the flow. Lately I have been noticing and focusing on small but primary green dots while meditating. This practice has been very helpful in keeping me centered and attentive. Tonight I used a ” bonus” meditation from Deepak Chopra and Oprah that arrived in my email today. The theme was power as an element in accessing the flow of life. I found the mantra particularly helpful and I would share it here if it was given in written form.

I was curious to see how the color green comes into play. I did some research and discovered that the color green is associated with the heart chakra. In tonight’s meditation we were attending to the third chakra. This is contained within the solar plexus. The heart chakra is not the seat of power, but it is where creativity reigns. ( Leo reference, yes!)  So perhaps for myself, creative energy leads to power.

While I paid attention to my breath and the mantra, the green dot began to transform before my eyes.  I was watching a movie in my head with my inner eyes and it was peaceful and organic. I saw many flying gentle creatures. They remind me of hypnagogia – visual hallucinations that occur prior to falling asleep.

This image was taken with Kirlian photography. It is freaky how close this resembles what I actually saw. These images conjured up the notion of power in action.

What is also curious is that recently I have had dreams on two separate occasions that featured this bright green hue. I wonder how my meditation is influencing my dream life ??

When I reflect on my writing over time, I realize that I receive inspiration from so many sources. Often the impact of other writers is minimized. I want to pay homage to those who have empowered me to write honestly and fearlessly. Some examples include Jung, John Weir Perry, Marianne Williamson, Rumi, Michael Lutin, Edie Weinstein , Jen Elam , Robert Graham, Marcelle Martin , and so many of my blogger community here at WordPress. It is exhilarating to let go of competitive urges ( Mars in Scorpio) and rather give credit to those who enter our orbit. That reminds me of another influence, Pharrell. He speaks often about how the numerous people who supported him and positively influenced him play a major role in his creative artistry and ultimate success.

Inspiration is limitless and I wonder if power is also limitlessly available to human beings? I am not certain, but I will continue to follow the lite in whatever form it takes and see where it leads me.

Harvest Moon

Ready for the last SuperMoon? On Monday September 8th we have the Full Moon in Pisces conjunct Chiron. I am feeling lazy (very moon in Pisces) so this won’t be a lengthy, informative astrology post. I will refer you to some great ones at the end, I promise. My interest of late has been to go underground and heal and sit and reflect and dream and purge and release and not use my intellect quite so much.  I have been Chironed so I am stepping up the self-care. Just got the new issue of TMA in the mail with an interview by Robert Hand, oh my! You gotta get this magazine, I am telling you. I may write for them someday, but irregardless, this is the gold standard.

It isn’t officially autumn yet, but we are getting there.  I chose Autumn by Monet because it has such a Piscean feel and a Virgoan touch. What a wonderful representation of the imminent energies !

Amidst all the collective and individual loss and angst, there is magic ever-present and opportunities for alchemy beckon. In fact, I am currently embarking on an adventure that may lead me to use my talents and gifts in a way that was decades in the making. This venture I have been preparing for since my teens. It would not be an exaggeration to say that virtually everything I have lived through has prepared me for this chance to serve with passion and purpose. This possibility is HUGE and quite unexpected, as many of them are. I am mentioning this so you, my readers can keep me in your thoughts and prayers. The Quakers will say To hold in the light. I am asking for help in this fashion, which is quite appropriate for this coming lunation.

When I decided to post about this time period, Neil Young immediately came into my consciousness. I am introducing 2 songs for your listening pleasure, bookends for the duality, mutability on which we will embarking shortly.

First is Harvest Moon, so romantic and soulful. It was featured in the film Eat Pray Love, which was among the best scenes in this underwhelming film. Read the book, meet the author, travel to either Italy, India, or Indonesia ( or all 3).  I did and so can you.  India and Bali are still on my list, but Italy, yeah was that a trip of  a lifetime. Trust me, Liz Gilbert is a breath of fresh air and I was enchanted with the idea of her book before it was even popular. And then I read   it. Much later I met her at a book tour in Bryn Mawr, PA and I got to ask her a question. Don’t recall what I asked, but it had to do with spirituality. I am so digressing, and typically I wouldn’t permit it – but Venus is in Virgo and my retrograde Mercury is in the 9th house and my moon is in Gemini and I adore rambling so today I allow it!

Here is the link for Harvest Moon, so precious..

Next there is simply, Harvest, the title song from Neil’s 1972 album Harvest. Neil clearly likes this theme. Boy did I give this record a workout my senior year of high school. And no, I was not a senior in 1972, I am younger than that. For some reason I got hooked that year on this battle- scarred, melancholy, world-weary, uber – melodic collection of classics. This piece is the opposite of romantic ; rather dramatic, sad, painful, and alienating.

While also brilliant and beautiful.

Oh how I love September! The promise of new beginnings, fresh ideas, exciting encounters with future friends …  Much rather go here than discuss how I spent my Summer with Saturn. I am not ready to go there, not yet anyway!

I took these four shots today in my neighborhood.

I enjoy the contrast  between hot and cool, opening and closing, bright and muted, fragrant and decaying, subtle changes between photo 1 and photo 3 ( can you see the differences between the two? do tell!)

Life is all about contrast and context, isn’t it?

Gotta leave you with a song, an oldie but goodie.

guess the song !
