Mars in Aquarius ~ Let Your Freak Flag Fly

It has been dreary, gray and stormy the past few days, complete with mini-hail and gloom to spare. I am learning to employ Radical Gratitude by accepting this temporary gray state and sharing my take on Mars in Aquarius. So grab a cup of cider or hot cocoa and enjoy!

Mars will be leaving Capricorn and entering the sign of Aquarius this Thursday December 4th. I thought it would be fun to discuss what we might expect with the arrival of this new energy. Keep in mind though, that one ought to expect the unexpected with Aquarius! Unpredictability is his middle name.

I am actually looking forward to this changing of the guard of Mars from somber, driven dreary, oh-so -serious Capricorn to inventive, quirky, electric Aquarius. With Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Scorpio in mutual reception, there has been such a dark and heavy overlay for several years. Mars in Capricorn just adds on more of the same, particularly  since Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio paired up with Capricorn. Mutual reception is when two planets are in each other’s signs of rulership. For example, Pluto the modern ruler of Scorpio is in Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn. Saturn is currently in Scorpio ( just a little bit longer- December 23rd) and Scorpio is ruled by Pluto. Viola, mutual reception.

So how does one describe Mars in Aquarius? Mars is the planet of war, action, drive, aggression, movement, initiation. Where we have Mars in our natal chart is the area of life that we are passionate about. We get all fired up and are turned on to the highest setting, guns blazing.  This is where we expend enormous amounts of our energy  and attention. In Aquarius, Mars becomes more steady and controlled. Mars is actually more comfortable in Capricorn as both are cardinal in nature. However, Mars is fast and masculine and so is Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius. He also happens to be transiting in Aries presently. Uranus and Mars will be very happy together as they will be in mutual reception. This will be a more dynamic combo than the Pluto Saturn pairing. More like Lady Gaga and Oprah than Scrooge and Darth Vader, if you get my drift. This may take some of the edge off of the Pluto Uranus square configuration that we have been living with forever (it seems that way to me).

When 2 planets are in mutual reception, there vibrations mix strongly as they feed off of one another. In the case of Uranus in Aries and Mars in Aquarius, they will form a sextile for a while, blending easily and with flair. This is the time to party with abandon, mixing all different types of people together, just for the hell of it. Buy unusual holiday gifts or contribute to charities in someone’s name to as a way to gift with consciousness. People who have Mars in Aquarius natally are often scientifically inclined, creative, unusual, and future oriented. They crave freedom and gravitate towards activism. They are often progressive, rebellious and a bit detached. They are sometimes more passionate about causes than actual people, unless they have significant water and fire placements in their other personal planets. Some folks say Aquarian types love humanity but hate people. I would not go that far, but I would say that Uranus can be a bit aloof at times. With Mars in Aquarius, group projects are paramount and revolution is in the air. Can you feel it coming your way?

I do not have many Mars in Aquarius people in my circle, but since I have an Aquarian Ascendant, I do understand what motivates them. I tell everybody that as I age I keep getting weirder and weirder and am loving it! At some point I ” got it” that I was fashioned as eccentric and that it is best for me to embrace my true nature. Like Lady Gaga says, ‘ I was born this way! ”

To better understand how to use this fresh new energy, look at where you have Aquarius in your natal chart. What house or houses does it occupy? This is where you will get an extra boost of energy and enthusiasm. If you have not had an Astrological consultation, no worries. You can contact me here to get a personal chart interpretation. BTW, they also make wonderful holiday gifts.

I have included some music that carry Aquarian overtones. Turn it loud and get your freak flag out of storage. Wave it high and proud! Be yourself this holiday season, and maybe even a bit longer. It may be the best gift you will ever receive.

  1. I love Lady Gaga, of course, as we seem to like a lot of the same things. But who doesn’t like someone who lets their freak flag fly all day, everyday? I assume there are many who think she’s crazy, but I doubt any of those people will be replying to my comment to tell me that I must be crazy, too! I have always been considered a little crazy and some think I am too hyper or I talk too much and too fast, so “crack head” has been thrown out there a few times as well. I don’t care! I doubt any of these people know a real crack head or they might use another term.

    1. Perhaps what we consider weird is the newer normal as more people discover more of their potential.

Astrology lingo can be tough for those who aren’t students, but I aim to write in a way that everyone will get some useful information. ❤

Here, I brought a unicorn for you too. Or would you prefer a Pegasus? Or make up your own. 😉

  4. It’s been heavy and intense, indeed, so a bit of energy in cosmic Aqua will be refreshing (and moreso when the upcoming Cap stellium meanders into Aquarius!). I have Sun and Saturn and some asteroids in Aqua, so I definitely get your gist (and the whole freak flag thing!). xoxo.
