Happy February!! Why Astrology Works- A Biased View

Solar_system

UPDATE: I may make this post an annual tradition here at litebeing chronicles. Please enjoy my salute to February while I crank out some new material soon.

Let’s also send a warm shout out to some WP bloggers who were born this week ~ Mike and Jamie !, and later this month Aleya! My orbit would not be as bright without your lite 🙂

This brief  “rant” is to help the uninitiated understand why I love astrology. This love is illogical, unscientific, and 100 percent biased. Long before I owned an ephemeris or even knew such a thing existed, February was my favorite month of the year. Even though I don’t particularly love winter. Even though I was born in November. When I was a kid, most of my close friends were born within a few days of each other during the beginning of February. I met my teenage crush on February 1st and for a while considered it an unofficial holiday.  My first serious boyfriend was born on February 5th and one of my most magical romances began on Thursday, February 4th. (love the phonetic symmetry)

Once I began taking formal astrology classes and attending astrological lectures, I learned how to properly calculate my astrological chart ( the days before we had computers!!) . Then I discovered that I am an Aquarius Rising. It basically means that the sun enters my first house every year approximately between February 4th and February 6th. For the astrologers reading this, I approximate because I have altered my documented birth-time by a few minutes to correspond better with life events. No one is usually born at 1:00 pm on the dot!!

Why I am posting this ” rant” ? Because I am feeling the pre- ascendant energy take shape! I love the electricity that accompanies the transition from the 12th house to the 1st, the darkness to the light, the hidden to the brightly illuminated. It is truly a rebirth.

Happy Birthday to all my  February Aquarius friends . Come celebrate the coolest shortest month on our calendar. And to those who don’t get astrology, pay attention to when you come back to life. It may surprise you!

  1. An excellent time to reblog and your last paragraph Linda spells out WHY..

Here’s to our Rebirthing.. I said in a reply comment upon my post recently
” We are going through some labour pains right now.. And each contraction is getting a little stronger.. But soon the head will present itself.. And a rush of emotion/water will flood out in one final push.. Then we will all hear cries of the Newly Born.. ❤ ”

    1. Hi Sue,
I am home again which gives me time to catch up on comments! I did feel a bit of surge when the sun came over the threshold. i had about 48 hours of peace and well-being, which is an improvement from hopelessness, paranoia, and anger. I learned a while ago that we are reborn in every breath, which may be true. Looking forward to that head revealing itself and soon!

love to you ❤ , Linda

  2. Hi Linda — Great post. Tomas was born February 6th – so coming right up. My favorite grandmother’s birthday was February 11th and she always decorated the church with daffodils and narcissus during her birth month to celebrate. Where we lived in northern California it was usually pretty mild in February so yes, that time of year is associated with the feeling of “coming back to life.” Presently, in Oregon, we are experiencing just the first inklings of spring (false promises of course, we’ll get slammed with more cold wet weather in March.)

So yes, Happy February! Hugs all around, Alia

    1. Thank you Alia for sharing your February moments. Wish Tomas a belated Happy Birthday to me. His sun is very close to my Ascendant so my return is always near his birthday! Most northern hemisphere folks do not look to February so it is an individual thing. Yesterdays balmy weather is one example of Spring’s promise during this month. Also the daylight is returning in an observable way. I know the shadow and darkness are to be embraced, not rejected, but I like some sunshine in my energy field.

      hugs all around, Linda

  3. That is so interesting! I think I usually come to life in October. I’m going to have to read through this a couple of times to try to get what you just did in regards to your rising moving from the 12th to the first house or something like that. Fascinating! I find astrology mostly confusing most of the time, however! LOL

    Love and light,

    1. Hi C,
I suspect that you grasp concepts rather well so I will explain it again: Just like the Sun returns to the exact degree of our birth every year, it also returns to the degree and Sign of our Ascendant every year. It is not always on the same day, but our exact Birthday is not always either. We just celebrate it on the same date we were born on. The 12th house is the period of darkness, like the winter of our personal life cycle. When the sun moves closer to the 1st house cusp ( Ascendant) it is as if we are pushed out of the womb again into the light.

      peace and light, Linda

  5. You are such a great astrologer! I love astrology, and tried to study it back in the 60s, and I saw then what an enormous life long task it is to learn. I’ve had my chart done and updates, but could never grasp how to figure stuff out! One thing I do know pretty well is Saturn return, having gone through 2 of them. Isn’t life just so interesting?! Thank you for your knowledge! and wisdom, Linda.
    Peace
    Mary

    1. What a lovely compliment Mary! Thank you! I guess many of us were studying back in the 60s. The Saturn return can be very important, a true milestone, but not for everyone. Mine was rather dull. But who knows about my next one. Can I ask your sun sign Mary? My guess is that you are a water sign, but I am sleepy today so forgive me if I am off track 🙂

It is not an easy subject to tackle. You have to love Astrology to stick with it. I was obsessed and nothing could stop me, but the mathematics involved in chart calculation prior to computers was difficult.

      peace, Linda

      1. I’m a Virgo, but I surprise myself that I’m not a water sign. I love the water so much, and I work with emotions with people, and feel things deeply myself. I spend more time feeling than thinking. But that could be my INFP type. I have Scorpio rising, so that could be the watery part. Maybe I came in Virgo because I needed the tiniest bit of organization and discernment skills.

I remember pouring over Linda Goodman, haha. Just couldn’t do it. But it’s so interesting and useful!

      2. Makes sense. Scorpio rising is very sensitive and intense and Virgo’s love the earth and all of life’s details.

Yes I read her books early on. She was ahead of her time and such a great writer 🙂

    1. You are welcome. While you are not an Aquarian, you are a February goddess and most likely get excited when we get into February.
I feel the same about you. Your expression and reflections have been so valuable to me, as well as your friendship.

  6. Hi Linda,

I think our passion for astrology makes sense. It is a fabulous tool for understanding oneself and connecting with the Universe. It’s a way to never live a day forgetting that we are a part of something bigger.

I remember when I was a kid, and I had a day when I thought, “wait a second… Jupiter… Saturn…. Neptune….all these HUMONGOUS planetary bodies are out there, and IF I have no reason to look beyond the moon that lights my night time path that night, I might forget about them.” As a kid, I didn’t want to forget that there’s more than I can see. Plus, we did have the astronomical society across the street where (though I’m not even an amateur astronomer) I would look up into the telescopes and see Saturn’s rings, or the moon.

Astrology was my way of clinging onto the fading picture of what knowing more means: possibility. It does mean not knowing very much. 🙂 The fact that we can engage with our planetary archetypes is brilliant. The whole world of astrology is vast and there’s so much to navigate. It’s never boring, Linda. It’s a great place to be! We are so fortunate to have discovered the tools early on.

    Much much love to you,
    Ka

    1. Yes, we all have stories where we became enchanted with the cosmos. Some have astrologers in the family and others get engaged in an indirect fashion. Maybe many of us have done this before, perhaps even together? it is never boring, which is why it still holds my interest.

Love and laughter my astro Aquarius sis,
      Linda

  7. Thanks for this attempt at astrology for dummies. I still don’t understand most of it, but then, I am probably a hopeless case.
It is interesting to hear that there is some kind of energy or electricity during this time that you can actually feel.
    Have a happy rebirth!
    Hugs,
    Karin

    1. You ain’t no dummy Dr. Karin! I think you understand more than you say 🙂 I wrote this to give the reader the sense that one’s life experience is paramount to the application of any theory or system. Don’t just take anything as truth, look at your life for the answers.

      Hugs,
      Linda
