Let There Be Songs To Fill The Air

“Ripple by Robert Hunter”

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they’re better left unsung.
I don’t know, don’t really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

You, who choose to lead, must follow
But if you fall you fall alone.
If you should stand then who’s to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

La dee da da da,
La da da da da,
Da da da, da da, da da da da da
La da da da,
La da da, da da,
La da da da,
La da, da da.

I needed to get something out before we officially head into October because my heart wants to write. So many ideas, so little time or energy, has been my mantra of late. I know I am not alone in this, wishing I could devote more of my life to my creative pursuits. But I digress..

I am going to share with you an article written about the late great Robert Hunter, who passed away on Monday. He was a primary songwriter for the Grateful Dead. I am a champion of the writers and his words have accompanied me through so much darkness and pain, all the while instilling wisdom, delight, and hope. He was as much a part of The Dead as Jerry or Bobby, less known but a dominant force all the same.

This beautifully crafted piece by NPR talks about Hunter’s deep fondness for Jerry, his penchant for Americana style music, and the themes of mysticism, freedom, and mortality in ways that I simply cannot do. You see, the Dead are too close to me for me to analyze, they are inside me and have been since I was seventeen. So check out the link and learn about a legend:

Have you noticed the transient aquatic header images I featured recently?  I spent 4 fabulous, funfilled days in Baltimore over Labor Day weekend. I am saving the details for a future post, but please enjoy some pics I took in the Inner Harbor and the National Aquarium now.

Let me say now, however, that my time in Charm City was a “long, strange trip.” Speaking of enigmatic phraseology, let me close this piece with a video of a Hunter song that features a line that litebeing chronicles is based on.

Listen and enjoy this trippy song that sheds light on “lite. ”

  1. Just read your reply to my comment Linda, glad you got to see Dolphins even though you missed their show.. As to my changing header image I have it set in my settings of header to change regular.. I add the autumn bar or flowers, snowmen etc above depending on the season and whim..
Listening to the video music now Linda as I type, and I can see why you so enjoyed this band..
Much love your way and continued blessings my friend 🙂 ❤

  2. Your blog is basking in that golden hue! I’m in agreement, let songs fill the air. I’m still being introduced to the Grateful Dead, so it’s nice to see/listen through your eyes and ears – appreciating the lyrics with you. Also really enjoyed the aquarium sights. I enjoy the beauty of the aquatic world. In one of my recent meditations my magical self was a mermaid. One of my friends was headed to inner harbor at some point. I have never been there and even when I lived on East Coast ,wasn’t too aware of it, but glancing at a website online, looks wonderful. I might have still missed your reference to “lite,” but not “light.” I think there’s more, and I missed something.

This is one of my favorite times of the year, but I think I like them all… since we are in this one “autumn” now, it’s my current favorite 😉 Hope the rest of your weekend is great and you can keep finding time to write on your blog as you enjoy it so much, and it shows. Also, Happy full moon in Aries 🙂

    1. Hey Ka, I loved reading your rich and detailed message here. The gold does reveal vitality and the autumn palate, thank you! Baltimore, aquarium and all, is awesome but not on most people’s radar. Maybe because I have roots there, are I have always live in the mId Atlantic?

Regarding ” lite” – There is a phrase in the video of Scarlet Begonias that I featured that is mentioned on my Blog Story page that describes the essence of my blog’s theme, litebeing chronicles. If you play the video ( at your leisure when you have time), I think you will catch the phrase right away. Sorry if I did not communicate this clearly.

      love to you ❤

      1. Hi Sue,
Always a treat to hear from you! I love fish and while the aquarium was very dark and hard to navigate, I am glad I went. I got to see dolphins, but missed the dolphin show.
I like to tweak the blog’s look regularly, thanks! I also enjoy how your change the header regularly.
