When I contemplated describing myself to potentially millions of people, (optimistic or delusional?) the image of a kaleidoscope came to me.
According to Wikipedia, A kaleidoscope is a cylinder with mirrors containing loose, colored objects such as beads or pebbles and bits of glass. As the viewer looks into one end, light entering the other creates a colorful pattern, due to the reflection off of the mirrors. Coined in 1817 by Scottish inventor Sir David Brewster,[1]“kaleidoscope” is derived from the Ancient Greekκαλός (kalos), “beautiful, beauty”,[2]εἶδος (eidos), “that which is seen: form, shape”[3] and σκοπέω (skopeō), “to look to, to examine”,[4] hence “observer of beautiful forms.” [5]
I really resonate with the final phrase : observer of beautiful forms, particularly since these forms are created by light. I would absolutely define myself as someone who is continually finding joy in the reflection of the light. This joy is manifested by an incredible array of forms: painting, photography, architecture, poetry, meditation, song, sculpture, nature. Light is energy and energy is how love is transmitted.
So the kaleidoscope serves as a powerful symbol of my current purpose and identity. I also prefer to view my Self as an energetic being who can be linked with what I value and what brings me joy.
What I Value Most: love, truth, integrity, beauty, compassion, honesty, wisdom, creativity, clarity, light, life
What Brings Me Joy: books, friends, nature , a soft sea breeze, chocolate, ancient temples, museums, espresso, music of all types ( especially jazz, reggae, Bach, Dylan, and country/bluegrass), independent films, cats ( Dexter pictured below) , spices, Seurat, pinball, Oprah, sushi, Rumi, sunflowers, travel near and far, wind chimes, horses, Indian food (swimming in raita), fireplaces, drumming, birds, the smell of coffee, harps, seashells, coconut, sunsets, mosaics, star-gazing, learning, Spirit
How I combine values with joy:
Assisting others in self-discovery as a blogger, astrologer, reiki 2 practitioner, teacher, artist, mentor, writer, therapist, dreamer, intuitive guide, light worker, mystic, litebeing.
Self-expression through drawing, painting, color, writing, being

Hi Linda, I love this metaphor of being a kaleidoscope. I didn’t know why it was called as such, so thank you for sharing its wonderful meaning, ‘observer of beautiful forms’. Just this phrase is enough to inspire any. Looking forward to reading and learning more from your blog. 🙂
Oh, and thank you for liking one of my posts. Peace.

I love how you described yourself. When I read the definition of kaleidoscope, the same phrase stuck out to me.
Then you talked about all sorts of cool stuff I like. Plus you mentioned sushi, Rumi and harps. I’m in!

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a sushi place with a harpist and Rumi poetry inside fortune cookies?
Thanks for your kindness.

Hey Linda,
Thank you for your kind invitation to join the collective 🙂 You’ve a great way with words, and a wry and clever sense of humour. I like the way you form links between things, as well as the way you express them…I’ve got a really good feeling we’ll be firm friends in no time. If you served up cheese and pickle sandwiches as well, I doubt I’d ever leave 🙂
Whilst I am an Englishman, Dewin Nefol is Welsh for Celestial Wizard, hence the reference to the stars. That you’d not long added the background is yet another coincidence to add to the growing number of coincidences occurring in ever greater number since starting down the Blogger’s trail. It’s a curious phenomenon to be sure! But as a reader of Carl Jung, the motivations and explanations of acausal events would already be known to you. Is it also from his work on Mandalas that you’re own interest in their form and function are derived?
Your home worlds of Neptune, Jupiter, and Venus give a little more away abut you, and the irony of the phrase watery sun had me smiling 🙂
I’ll continue to stop here for a while longer this evening, and I will of course be back here again very soon. Lovely to meet you Linda. take care.
God Bless. Namaste

Hey Linda,
What a wonderfully calm and peaceful place this is to stop and linger 🙂 I’ve only just landed and already the aches and pains of my transatlantic flight seem to have totally dissolved away… It almost feels like one is sinking back into a billowing cloud.
I must confess from the start that I adore the star-spangled image of the heavens upon which the Blog is set…it gives the page a sense of infinite expansion, which I imagine is the clever intention behind allowing much of it to grow ‘organically?’ You clearly value the purpose and motivation of your readers…and why not when every comment is positive and sincere and seems to reflect the heart of you very readily.
Using the Kaleidoscope as an analogy around which to craft together an understanding of you demonstrates the mind of someone who can think in and grasp abstract terms. It is the expansive mind of an artist. But the single most illuminating find in this post is the list of ‘What brings you Joy’. That is a great list! And every one of those entries indicative of your true nature. Both eclectic and far-reaching, it offers a clear window through which to sit and watch you unfold in a reader’s gaze. I have my particular favourites amongst them but with the exception of just 4 from the list, they would otherwise all pretty much fit in my back-pack of life. Tell me…where about in the world do you live? Equally, I share several of your interests as well. Curiouser and curiouser as Sindy Bluebutterfliesandme would say!
I’ve read Blog Story, and found a great deal of interest in that. You don’t strike me as being someone who is easily led, or fooled either I would imagine, so I’ve come to the conclusion tat your motivations, passions, and intentions are presented from the heart. That one post therefore reads like a potted biography of who you are and in my thinking becomes an extension of About Me. Together they reveal a person of warmth, depth, and sincerity, and someone who experiences a total enjoyment of the sensuous life. This as it should be with a natural Air-sign. I am Virgo, and as I was just commenting to a couple of friend’s only recently, Air and Earth are an amazing compliment each other…without Earth there would be no Air, but without Air, Earth could not support its rich abundance of Life. The two are inexplicably interwoven and perpetually self-managing. On that basis alone I would have been a follower, but in collaboration with all else that I’ve also found here, I shall be both a follower and a regular visitor to your site.
Thank you for the invite, and for putting together such a warm and comfortable Blog….all I need now is somewhere to tuck the slippers whilst I ease back into this here cloud… I could almost be at home.
Namaste

I had a feeling your commentary would be wonderful and detailed and I am so pleased you are at home here!
The wallpaper is practically brand new, just changed it to reflect my moods, which is how I roll. You are correct in that my about page and blogstory are connected. Blog story gives more of an outline to the blog where my story is more personal.
I live usually on the planet neptune but find venus and jupiter quite nice as well. I have a watery sun but both my moon and ascendant are in air so you are quite astute ( as Virgos tend to be)
I adore feedback and commentary so please relax, enjoy, and dialogue with us here.
Namaste 🙂
