Transparently Yours

Life requires courage, only the bold can continue to breathe in and breathe out. Existence on planet Earth, not for the faint of heart. Walking the path is the hero’s journey only. Cowards need not apply here. Fear is never far away, only a nuanced, inkling separates the being from the trap of despair.

Nature has its own secrets, only for the properly initiated. The rest of us counts the seconds, minutes, hours, between the first squeal and the final gasp. Linear time is a game that is tempting at first glance. And yet, the only way out is to quit playing.

The ocean is no joke. Either you learn to ride the waves or the waves ride you. Power is the ability to influence and Gaia’s a powerful mistress. Obey the silent cry within, never stray far from your truth, your core. Otherwise you may find your essence scattered into the center of a salt crystal, where no-thing can hear you cry.

How can you tell the direction of the fates? The sky can fool the best of them with its wily ways. Clouds are shape-shifters and the sun can play hide and seek like a crack-addicted rabbit with ADHD. If you don’t believe this, go follow Uranus on a cantankerous Leo day and report back with all the details.

What can a simple soul do when she feels the breeze but her heart no longer feels the relief it delivers? Is there solace to discover? Are the winds of change a blessing or a flukey hoax? Where does the joy go when no one can dance with her in an instant? Does she linger in the shadows, waiting for time and space to dissolve? Perhaps joy’s promise can raise the shadows to meet the heart on its own terms.

Poetry ~ The Guest House

Alia’s comment on my Just a Bad Day post prompted me to remember Rumi’s remarkable The Guest House piece. As I navigate transiting Pluto opposing natal Mars along with my moon being hit by both a square from transiting Chiron and an opposition from transiting Saturn, it is comforting to remember that this “shit storm” of emotional fallout is preparing me for some future state of being. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. May we all transition gracefully and with some guidance from Rumi.

I did not plan to blog today. While in the midst of a personal emotional roller coaster ride, I learned of the passing of Nelson Mandela. When I considered the magnitude of his challenges, I realized that I could benefit from a serious perspective shift.   So I  decided to take my temporary angst and convert it into a fine elixir of truth. Rumi always works for me during moments like these. I have shared this poem on this blog once before, but I never tire of its message…

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you…

Poetry ~ Gratitude

wikimedia free domain

We celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States tomorrow. Gratitude practice is a large part of my life every day, in personal reflection and in my work as a therapist. So I am re-posting my gratitude poem from 2013 for you all to enjoy.

While I have decided to spend tomorrow alone, without my family, I will not neglect my gratitude practice. While this year was difficult for me health-wise and financially, much has changed over time. I am so grateful to have a new job ( today is my 6 month anniversary) where I clearly see my gifts unfold in the changes my clients are making in their lives.

kokoa

I am grateful for Kokoa, my brand new dark brown Honda, whose driver-side electric window works. Isn’t she pretty?  I love finally being able to go to a drive-through or toll booth without having to open the car door. I am grateful for finding some amazing new co-workers and recently landing an excellent clinical supervisor to help me pursue my LCSW. It was around 1 year ago when I discovered that I could no longer remain credentialed and that getting the next level of licensure was the only option available. I am very grateful to Wendy, who is helping my re-work my nutrition and guiding we towards improved wellness. This is a work in progress, but I am optimistic that I can learn more about food and herbs in order to heal my body, mind, and spirit. I am also grateful that my week and a half vacation begins NOW!

While my life is far from perfect and it may appear that the planet is imploding with negativity and regressive attitudes and actions, there is always hope. Every breath is a new beginning.

Where there is darkness. the promise of light is certain. Where there is light, there is love, and lite.

GRATITUDE

G – Generosity of spirit manifesting in each moment, with each inhalation

R- Resilience in the face of darkness, supporting me through many a storm

A- Ability to share myself through writing, teaching, healing, BEING

T- Twinkle of light in a child’s eyes, the sunset, my heart

I – Inspiration that never ceases to amaze me and warm my soul

T- Treasures that unfold effortlessly and in a multitude of forms

U- Unconditional love , from Dexter, family of choice, my friends near and far

D-Dreams manifesting mysteriously and magnificently, especially here at WordPress

E- Eternal miracles, just waiting to be discovered, right under my nose

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holy-day. Maybe that’s because it arrives so close to my Midheaven, or perhaps it’s my mother’s incredible stuffing. Then again it could be the ability to include anyone you want at the table, without the pressure of gifts or material constraints.  Less hype, more substance.

I personally am not a fan of holidays in general. The Quakers were right in saying that every day is holy. It can be if we choose to live and love in each moment. What makes Thanksgiving sacred to me is the idea of a tribal feasting and gratitude practice. Frankly there have been some years where I had difficulty reciting my blessings round the dinner table. Life has not always been kind or simple. Tomorrow it will difficult for my family to shut me up when it is my turn to share my blessings. With tears in my eyes and a glow in my heart, I am so aware what a remarkable year this has been! No, it has not been without challenges, mishaps, losses, and delays. But this is the first time in decades where I have realized so many of my original dreams and desires. Sometimes I just have to pinch myself. I never knew life could be so incredible…

But then again, it’s probably the stuffing, yummy!

Wishing you and yours a Blessed Thanksgiving, even if you do not formally celebrate! Let the love and bounty into your heart and tell everyone that you love them…

Words and Pictures

the-little-falls-sketch-1918.jpg!Large

Words and Pictures is a film I have longed to see for a good while. The draw for me is my passion for both writing and the visual arts. It had alluded me at the theater and disappeared from cable and Netflix without warning. It reappeared this week on On Demand fortunately.

Mini-review: This film is about two lonely, wounded artists who find one another and challenge each other to become better versions of themselves. The acting is magnificent. Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen are beautifully matched here. I am a fan of both in such films as Chocolat, Bee Season, Croupier, and Closer. But I would be inclined to say they gave better performances in this piece. I appreciated mostly the nuances in what wasn’t said, the intricacies expressed by their facial expressions were on full display.

The main premise asks the question: Which medium is more moving , pictures or words? While the answer still remains a mystery, the film uses both words and visuals to provide drama, inspiration, and some comic relief. Both main characters struggle with loss, failure, and emotional vulnerability. It seems like they have become reduced to lifeless, half-dead, shells. But life has other plans….

The purpose of this post is to pair images with words and have you, the reader, decide your preference. I am pairing the paintings of J. E. H. MacDonald and the words of  poets from Love Poems from God and quotes by The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo for your enjoyment and comparison.

First pairing:

5.1.5

I WOULD CEASE TO BE by St. Teresa of Avila

God

dissolved

my mind – my separation.

I cannot describe now my intimacy with Him.

How dependent is your body’s life on water and food and air?

I said to God ” I will always be unless you cease to Be.”

And my Beloved replied, ” And I

would cease to Be

if you

died.”

Second pairing:

the-tangled-garden-1916

LIKE ROOTS by St. Thomas of Assisi

Our hands imbibe like roots

so I place them on what is beautiful in this world.

And I fold them in prayer, and they

draw from the heavens

light.

Third pairing:

early-autumn-montreal-river-algoma

The stream of life that runs through the world,

runs through my veins.  ~  Rabindranath Tagore

Fourth pairing:

rowanberries-mountain-ash-algoma-1922.jpg!Large

And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to bloom.  ~ Anais Nin

Final reflections ~

This is not a contest, just merely an exercise to focus on the wonder of the written word and the dance of color and light. I will admit that blogging has afforded me the luxury of marrying my words with art, a luxury I am unlikely to relinquish without a fight.

The beauty of Words and Pictures is the restoration of the main characters. This is a partial restoration or reset point. While neither one goes back in time, before the damage and wounds set in, they emerge lively and prolific once more. Compromises were made and risks were taken. Through this process, rebirth prevailed.

Happy Spring from litebeing,

May you embrace your inner Easter.

Poetry ~ Venus in Pisces

More original content is on the way. In the meantime, how about some Venus in Pisces poetry?

litebeing chronicles

I had a dream last night about ” James”, which has not happened for quite some time. I told him about my blog and asked him to read it and how connected we are at WordPress. Yes I am plugging my blog through the dream portal! He told me he was in love. After some reflection it occurred to me that the dream may be heralding the Venus transit into Pisces. Since “James” and I share a Neptune/ Venus connection and he is such a Piscean/Neptunian spirit, it rings true to me.

So I decided to grace this blog with some more Random Poetry. I will get centered and randomly open to a page within Love Poems from God.  Let’s see what happens.

#Blesstival ~ Behold Nature’s Mystical Call

Photo992

This post is part the Blesstival series happening at Jamie’s blog ~ Sophia’s Children. The purpose is to spread blessings through this season of ” Newness”.

I found my offering by Mira via random poetry process, using the book Love Poems from God by Daniel Ladinsky.

Nature is one of the ways that Spirit speaks to me. The beauty and subtlety get me every time. So it is no surprise that I discovered this piece to share with you, a blessing from the natural world.

A Limb Just Moved

You taught Your songs to the birds first,

why was that?

And you practiced Your love in the hearts of animals

before You created man.

I know the planets talk at night

and tell secrets

about

You.

A limb just moved before me,

the beauty of this world

is causing me to

weep.

Notice the planetary reference? I see this poem asking us to pay attention to nature in all its majesty and to remember our place in the circle of life on Earth. Take comfort in both its wisdom and ability to transport one back to Source.

I was unfamiliar with Mira before I opened the page to her poem. According to Ladinsky, Mira ( Mira bai) lived from 1498 – 1550 and was considered the most renowned female poet-saint of India. Apparently she was born a princess who was devoted to Krishna. She later became a rebel and champion of women’s rights. I think we would be friends!

To read up on Mira aka Meera,  please visit this site.

Thank you Jamie for creating this exercise. Love is my religion and blessings spread the love. Let’s be the love we want to see in the world.

NAMASTE

Poetry – Grace Everpresent

I am having a shaky day, in the shadows of a brilliant Solstice Celebration last evening. I am in need of consolation, so I shall use my words to comfort myself. This poem was written during a very dark time and I remember it well.

As a bonus, I am linking to an article I found about Grace. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Here is a sample:

Grace is Courage – You are in a state of grace when, during those moments when you can see no way out of a predicament, you know that love will prevail. Even though you may feel afraid, there is so much love in your heart that you know you will not give up. Grace is the warmth in your heart that gives you courage.

Please hold me in your thoughts and prayers as I navigate another challenge that I cannot control or avoid. The only way is through.

photo_9285_20090125

Where is Grace?

Grace is realizing the car keys are in your other pocket

Grace is when the cop gives you a warning this time

Grace is when the red birds descend on your terrace ” just because”

Grace is when you discover your checkbook error

that you subtracted one hundred dollars by mistake

Grace is when the sky opens and the sun tells the clouds to get lost for a spell

Grace is the neighbor’s cat who snuggles with you after yours has passed away

Grace is the stranger who helps you pick up your groceries off the floor

Grace is the MRI that reveals you don’t have that illness after all

Grace is accepting what is and surviving with renewed hope

Grace is a whole heart after a lifetime of shatters and scars

Grace is a million new beginnings

Grace is finding love way past your prime

Grace is everpresent

update (2013) :

I wrote this poem , or rather this poem wrote me, from a place filled with a mixture of despair, emptiness, hope, and gratitude. Your response has been wonderful and I thank you.  My poetry has always been fueled by intense emotion and manifests only when it is good and ready. Stay tuned for new arrivals in future posts.

Gemini Moon Magic

Here’s a treat for the non-astrologer. You may ask: What does Gemini moon even mean? How does it look, feel, operate? Here’s a gem from me and a couple of Gem moonbeams from last year that will give you a hint or two. Enjoy!

“Gem Moon Mandala” by AmandaSeesDreams of http://www.Dreamrly.com

Welcome to the collaborative lunations of Gemini moon pals, LitebeingDreamrly, and yours truly, The Ptero Card. Yesterday marked the Gemini / Sagittarius full moon of 2014, and through our mutual love of art and writing we’re combining our efforts for a few reflections on our experience of lunar Gemini in our natal astrological charts. Each of our contributions was produced independently, without consultation other than assigning the art work to Dreamrly, poetry to Litebeing and intuitive writing to me. We present here the fruits of our work which we hope enhance your own lunations, where ever they may take you.

The basis of astrology, an ancient wisdom practiced by nearly all pre-scientific cultures, comes from the understanding that external cosmological events have a corresponding affect on our interiority, because human disposition is a microcosm of the macrocosm, or, as the ancients say, “as above, so below.” I suspect…

Embracing Forever

Obviously I am not a Christian,
but Jesus is my companion.
More than that, even.
We were bound together in darkness,
in a moment we both chose without resistance.
The ropes encircling us are sacred.
We are each other’s atrium and ventricle.
We live in the same house.
We love the same woman.
We lay together on a raft sometimes,
continuing our passage across the sea
to visit the birth of life.
At night, when I’m done
staring at the ceiling
and my tears
are passing out of the harbor
in a galloping herd of waves,
and the stars are keeping watch
over each one,
marking each surging shoulder
with the incendiary memory of
sodium, hydrogen, helium and argon–
Jesus is the tide that carries them.
Jesus is the road we walk that leads us to the sea.

And clearly I am not a Buddhist,
though I dissolve into the Buddha’s robes
with…
