Undone

Hi litebeings,

As promised, I am back. But sadly, I could not find time or energy to complete my draft for publication. You could say I have become a little undone. Or perhaps a bit obsessed with the Amazon Prime tv series Undone. I somehow wound up on Amazon Prime and seemingly found this show I knew nothing about. I watched the entire series in one sitting ( while recuperating from another GI episode)  and was completely captivated.

Yeah, it was that good.

Check out the trailer:

This sci-fi semi-animated series turns out to be considered one of the best new television shows of the season. Stunningly beautiful, witty, and unpredictable, I am surprised I had not heard of it on social media.  It is about many things but mostly leaves the viewer wondering if  Alma, the main character has a mental illness or is spiritually gifted. Sometimes I wish I could view my life this way, fast forward to the end to see how it turns out. However, Undone will be filming a second season, so both my life trajectory and this spectacularly mind-bending storyline will both remain mysteries. I find it quite interesting that I wound up watching this amazing show given that I am fascinated by this particular topic.

Maybe I am spiritually gifted, or am I just exhausted?

to be continued….

Book Review ~ When Spirit Leaps

Book Review: When Spirit Leaps ~ Navigating the Process of Spiritual Awakening by Bonnie L. Greenwell PhD

Many books and articles about the awakening journey make assumptions about their audience. Either they elevate their knowledge base and throw theories and terms around without proper explanation or they appeal to the lowest common denominator and dumb down the content. When Spirit Leaps is so appealing because the author treats the reader with care and respect. This book is both comprehensive in scope, without sacrificing the personal element. I think this is one of the reasons why I highly recommend When Spirit Leaps.

Dr. Greenwell, a transpersonal psychotherapist, non-dual spiritual teacher and former student of Adyashanti, draws from her extensive experience to create a book that will engage and support anyone who is looking for clarity about embodied consciousness. She has a great reputation as a longtime Kundalini expert and her emphasis on Kundalini activation makes this publication especially valuable. The book is divided into three sections: How We Awaken, Navigating the Challenges of Awakening, and The Continual Unfolding of Liberation. The reader can choose to read this book using intuition or approach it from cover to cover. I assure you there is something of interest for anyone eager to learn more about the awakening process.

I was especially fond of the How We Awaken material. Chapter 2 Energy Moves Us Along the Way, was so informative and rich in details about the “mechanics” of Kundalini. Many people are aware of the concept of Kundalini and have heard accounts of how people are transformed after a Kundalini activation. However, many are still left wondering “Have I experienced this energy myself? “or “What does this process look like? “I am one of those people and was hungry for some sound explanations. Learning about the various nadis (lines of energy) was new information for me and Greenwell’s explanations were very helpful. I also appreciated her take on the chakras through the tantric yoga tradition.  Section 1 also includes insightful material on the various portals to awakening consciousness that is both practical and heartfelt. The content on the Dark Night of the Soul and moving into the void is also well executed.

Section 2 explores the challenges of living fully embodied while undergoing gradual or sudden waves of heightened awareness. The author does a great job helping one discern the differences between dysfunction (psychosis) and enhanced function (increased consciousness). This topic is controversial and difficult to get a handle on, but Greenwell covers it with respect and care. The exercises included are also a wonderful resource as well.

In the final section, the book addresses where to go from “here”. The losses inherent on the spiritual path are addressed, inviting the reader to acknowledge and accept that gains are a byproduct of letting go of what no longer serves a more evolved way of being. Chapter 9 covers the complexities of living in unity consciousness in a 3D world that appears dual in nature. The following quote resonates strongly for me: “In the stillness between extremes, we’ll discover who we are. Possibilities will arise from the heart and the deeper intuition of the gut, so a new birthing can happen.  Our natural impulse towards life as an expression of love, wisdom, and creativity can emerge without barriers.” When Spirit Leaps takes the reader on an adventure with heart, wisdom, and integrity, allowing the space for integration, peace, and further exploration.

Bringing Mysticism into Focus

light_the_way (1)

This is the first article in a continuing series on Mysticism. Astrologically the time is ripe with Saturn square Neptune to bring some form and focus ( Saturn) to what appears to be elusive and mysterious ( Neptune). The recent entry of Venus in Scorpio also supports a dialogue on the love ( Venus) of what lies beneath the surface ( Scorpio).

When I began this blog, the tagline was ” The adventures of a part-time mystic.” I have since changed the tagline because I realized that I am not a part-time mystic. We all are part-time human beings that are actually eternal mystics. This is what I believe.

So what do I mean by mystic anyway? I’ll suggest the following: A mystic is anyone who is interacting with Source directly. This covers a lot of territory. Initially I thought that mystics were the rare individuals who lived in monasteries or were fully enlightened beings. I see this differently, especially now. Mystical experiences and spiritual awakenings are our birthright as we dance the dance between the material and spiritual planes of existence. As I described during my telling of an intense awakening experience, I eventually owned the title of mystic. It was a long time coming, but I could no longer deny my truth. I just did not want to appear pretentious or really foolish.

But a funny thing happened, the more I identify accurately, the more mystics enter my life! My revised view on mysticism is that it is a natural state of being  and that not being mystical is most likely caused by painful programming in early childhood or even traced back to genetic and ancestral roots. It seems that we are in ” new times” where the mystical is returning to our collective culture. This is exciting and also frightening for many, myself included.

But help is on the way.

So often in my world, I find myself presented with interesting opportunities seemingly out of the ethers. This fall I joined a Facebook group based on the Shades of Awakening summit. Through the group I was invited to take an online class with Emma Bragdon on How to Effectively Help Someone in Spiritual Emergency. I had little time to decide, but felt such a strong pull to participate. I am so glad I took the plunge and here’s why:

I was able to connect with others who are passionate about helping support those having difficulties with their transition.

I learned much more about the differences and similarities between Spiritual Emergence ( SE) and Spiritual Emergency ( SEY).

I was able to expand my knowledge about how to assess and treat those with various manifestations of SEY.

I learned about the Spiritism Model featured in Brazil, as well as other international systems of care that integrate the conventional medical model with the alternative spiritual based models.

I became aware of Spiritual bypass, where an individual strongly pursues spiritual development and ignores underlying psychological issues that remain unresolved. Upon reflection, I realize that I have encountered many people in my life who were using spirituality as a distraction or addiction. They were sometimes in positions of power and hurt many as a result of their resistance to addressing their psychological well-being.

I reignited my desire to serve others as a practitioner in a way that speaks to me and is relevant to these times. I plan to take the Practicum so I can complete the course and become a Spiritual Emergence Coach ( SEC).

I know I have only begun to scratch the surface on what it means to be a mystic and how this way of being will transform our planet. I am very curious as to what all my dear litebeings have to say on this topic.

Please share your opinions in the comments section.

I strongly recommend you learn more about the course here. Emma is a wonderful instructor who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as an educator, healer, and one with lived experience. She is very engaging, devoted, and a lightworker in every sense of the word. If my post sparks even a hint of curiosity, check out the material or and/or email me to learn more.

So many of us benefit by evolving via community. I know that I began to blossom as a young astrology student once I joined a local astrology group. I do not think I would have begun to read for others were it not for my ” village”. Joining with others that share similar values and experiences instills safety and the ability to be more authentic and shine brighter.

I hope this introductory offering on the Mystic’s Way has nudged more folks out of slumber and closer to home.

Power Up The Energetic Web

wikipedia.org, pub domain

How has your weekend been? After quite a hectic and somewhat unsettling week, I woke up today with a lingering state of peace. So so grateful…

I have some announcements to share:

Some of you may remember I posted about an online summit on spiritual awakening and spiritual emergency. It was sponsored by Shades of Awakening. It was absolutely delightful hearing from speakers around the globe about how altered states of consciousness often involved experiences that Western society typically labels as psychotic or pathological. Well, through a string of unforseen circumstances I was made aware of an online course given by Emma Bragdon, one of the summit speakers. I am taking the class, which is called How to Effectively Help Someone in Spiritual Emergency, and it begins this Wednesday October 21st. If you are interested in the overlap between shamanic initiation and “mental illness”, this course may be for you. It is part 1 of a 2 part series leading up to a certification to become a Spiritual Emergence Coach. There are still spaces available and I would be delighted to learn alongside of you!

Visit here to learn more.

My pal Barbara over at Memymagnificentself is launching her book and looking for book reviews and interviews on various platforms. I will be interviewing her here and would love some company. Let’s support her in her quest to promote her book and its mission of freedom, unity consciousness and Divine expression.

Check out Barbara’s latest post to join the fun.

Last but not least, the Time Machine Blogging Challenge continues. The response to this series has been excellent. Let’s keep adding more momentum by filling the remaining dates on the roster. I added dates for the end of this month per the requests of some bloggers who needed more time. Time isn’t running out in 5D or above, but here on momma Earth, time is limited and we have 4 more spaces available. They are October  21, 22,  23, and 24. It would be an added bonus to get a representative from Africa and South America. All the other continents are covered save Antarctica!

To learn more about the challenge and read all the fascinating time tales, click here.

I really like the visual notion of our cosmos as an energetic web. It captures the premise of quantum thought and sacred geometry. I fancy the notion that every breath is a chance to light up our collective frequencies and celebrate our interconnectivity. By participating in any or all of the activities I mentioned above, you can make a difference beyond your wildest dreams.

NAMASTE

Shades of Awakening Summit: Spirituality and Mental Health

Hello litebeings,

While many of you know I have been a practicing therapist with a strong transpersonal orientation, most do not know about one of my pet research topics ~ spirituality and psychosis. I did some research in grad school on the psychosis process from a micro to macro perspective and emphasized both the intersection between psychosis across cultures and how mental health symptoms intersects with mystical experiences. I was hungry to do more and a few years later I partnered with a psychologist to edit and complete a book on spiritual emergencies. The book project was permanently shelved but my passion for the topic has only increased over time.  I have intended to blog on this topic, but have not really done so as of yet.

However …….

I want to inform those who are curious about how Chiron ( the wounded healer) operates in one’s life that there is an excellent free online summit happening this weekend. I just finished listening to one of the interviews and was quite impressed. I plan to listen to more of the speakers and invite you to check this out.

Let me know what you think of the series and the topic in general. I would love to hear from any shamans ( part-time or otherwise) to get their take on this material also.

Namaste

Mercury Musings and More!

UPDATE :

Happy Saturday everyone! It has been almost one week since I had my Sound Bath healing and the energies are still moving in unpredictable ways. Thanks for those who have offered some assistance on this kundalini trip. I continue to seek inner guidance about what is happening with me currently. Meeting with my spiritual director was helpful. She also assists me with my dreamwork and boy has it been jumping lately. I found a book yesterday that contained material by David Lukoff that was very useful. David Lukoff is a transpersonal psychologist and leading expert on Spiritual Emergencies and knows what he is talking about  His writing is among the best I have found thus far on the subject. It is balanced, focused, and easy to understand. Lights are still flickering and my heart is still racing, but not as often. I also ” by chance ” ran into Tracie the nature channel while shopping yesterday. Have not seen her in about 2 years. I  initially met her when I began to attend the Sound Baths several years ago. Seeing her yesterday ~ Coincidence? I don’t think so!!

I do not want to alarm any of my readers. While this is a challenging time, I am certain that this is just the latest of a series of openings I have experienced during the course of my life. What seems different now is that I was able to link it to a specific event and have different language for it, and that there seems to be a very fiery component at play ( super combustible grand fire trine).

THROWBACK MERCURY:

Today is the first day of Mercury Retrograde. It is also World Animal Day and Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of Atonement. I prefer to write it ACIM style ~ at-one- ment.  I have written before on the Course in Miracles teachings on the illusion of separation and how it has decimated our sense of unity as a people and as the source of All There Is. This particular time of year can be used ( especially in 2014 with Mercury stationing retrograde in Scorpio) to heal the divisions within us by embracing the shadows and healing the splits and factions within. There are some interesting articles written about this today on the blogosphere, very timely indeed.

MINI BOOK REVIEW:

Speaking of timeliness ..   It was nearly nine years ago when I first was introduced to The Little Soul and the Sun by Neale Donald Walsch.  After gazing at it on Amazon for a long time ( could not find it offline) , I finally ordered it.  The package arrived a few days ago and we had a joyous reunion! To read it again after all this time is so empowering and certain passages triggered a profound crying spell. These were tears of recognition of the power of the Source and my longing for that complete connection. Shortly after I had my awakening during the Summer of 2005 I returned to a very chaotic work situation. Many people had moved on and the entire leadership team of my department was in flux. One of my supervisors ( one of the few who remained) was led to bring me a book to borrow. He had never done so before. He came to my cubicle and said that he wanted me to read this book because it will help me deal with a very difficult dilemma. He handed me this children’s book. I am thinking ” Why is he giving me a children’s book?” When I saw that the author was Neale Donald Walsch, creator of the Conversation with God series, I was happy to dig in.

This beautifully illustrated tale is about the purpose of the human experience and the contracts we make with one another in order to help us fulfill our unique expression of the Divine. It tells the tale of one soul who wanted to live the wonder of his being through physical expression on Earth and chose to experience the nature of forgiveness. This short story succinctly explains the role of darkness in the Universe and why this physical world is ” all pretend.” It is indeed a children’s book, but I enjoyed it as much or more that many of the heady metaphysical material that I pore through on a regular basis. The main theme is to forgive one another for any perceived wrongdoing and to recognize that we are all loving beings of light.

I understood the reason my supervisor lent me this book, yet I was unable to forgive this coworker who was to play a powerful role in my work group. I did not have the support necessary to deal with her daily, and look beyond her current persona that was quite untrustworthy and manipulative. While I understood that a great life lesson was before me, I simply was unprepared to take this challenge on. Not at this time.

I ultimately used this situation to once and for all make a clean break from a system that I had outgrown. This coworker actually did me a huge favor by being a catalyst that set these events in motion. By the way, I  lent my supervisor Dan Millman’s The Way of the Peaceful Warrior in exchange for his kind gesture.  It was the least I could do!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a major heart opening. This may seem paradoxical to many, but often the simpler texts teach me more about life than the scholarly ones. Perhaps this is why I am so drawn to poets like Rumi. He packed millenia of lifetimes condensed into mere sentences. Sometimes less is more. Check out Sindy’s post here to read the entire story!

And on that note I wish you peace amidst the wilds of this October 2014. May we all become wiser, stronger, more conscious and kinder to ourselves and everyone who crosses our path.
