Art is My Medicine ~ Scorpio New Moon Edition

11/14/23 Update: I am pleased to report that I received a scholarship to take the online course. Very excited!

This post came to me as an inspiration from the Barnes Foundation. I noticed numerous emails from them lately. Today I opened one that featured Spring Classes.  While I have not contemplated taking any courses, the Title Mysticism, Spirituality and Modern Art drew me in. The painting featured to advertise the class is one by Redon. Some may recall I have featured him here. I am a big fan of his work. I am also a big fan of arts aligning with the mystical. Sometimes I think the Barnes is seeking me!

While I am not that big on modern art, I was curious about those covered in the course. I decided to take a look at Marsden Hartley. His use of bold color is joyous. I also appreciate his interest in the natural world, especially my beloved Southwest. ( see below) .

After I uploaded his art it occurred to me I should have looked for a Scorpio artist. given today is the Scorpio New Moon. Stubborn as I can be, I decided to keep him as the profiled artist. When I looked as his chart ( without birthtime) I saw he has Mars in Scorpio. It is conjunct today’s Mars in Scorpio placement. Not only that, he has a tight Mars/ Pluto opposition. Intuitively I must have known that I  had chose the artist for this particular time. Check out his biography here.

I identify strongly with his interest in Gertrude Stein’s  Avant Garde Circle in 1920s Paris, as well as his connections with the likes of Thoreau.  His bio states that the writings of Thoreau and others inspired him to view art as a spiritual quest.      Be still my beating heart….

Please enjoy these offerings.  Blessed New Scorpio Moon!

  1. I love the intenseness of his paintings. I, too, am always grasping at the story/meaning behind Modern Art. I don’t understand it, and, in many cases, that is the artist’s intent. But I am still drawn to it, making my emotional reactions to it part of the learning curve. And funny — I am currently reading The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein, and am just in love with all the artists she is involved with! Love this blog!

    1. I so appreciate your visit here as I adore your blog, I am not a big modern art fan but color, shape, and use of light will get me every time! A couple films, such as Midnight In Paris, have focused on this circle. Hemmingway , Picasso, Dorothy Parker, etc. I imagine being in that world. How is the book? I have not read it but certainly have heard of it. Love the synchronicities here!

      1. I downloaded the book for free online. The people she hung with, the places she went.. I’m only about 1/4 into it , but she was very much into the abstract and modern movement. I think you and I are kindred souls!!
