A Glimpse of En-Deerment ~ A Jupiter in Sag Moment

Life has been very harsh lately. Thursday’s initial snow of  the season resulted in a traffic nightmare for many, leaving me stuck in my car for close to five hours. This experience left me shaken and depleted. Sometimes I feel that if I share too much about the depths of my emotions I will scare my readers away. Even during the darkest of moments, I remember to pray, ask for guidance, and love myself. Sometimes I receive a pleasant, unexpected blessing.

I woke up this morning and immediately noticed a large animal near the bird feeder. Initially I thought it was a dog, but it was actually a deer. Despite many attempts, today is the first time I have been able to shoot some deer pics, right in the comfort of my living room! Deer is one of my totems and I wrote extensively about deer medicine here.

On occasion, my spirit merges with my totem and we really connect. Deer typically flee as soon as they detect humans in their path, but this guy/gal waited a bit and met my gaze. We had a moment. This moment gave me hope that something larger, grander than myself is waiting for me…..

Here are a few excerpts on Deer magick:

Deer has entered your life to help you walk the path of love with full consciousness and awareness, to know that love sometimes requires caring and protection, not only in how we love others, but also in how we love ourselves.

A deer’s senses are very acute and they see extremely well in low light, giving them the ability to understand the deeper symbolic meanings of things. They can hear a twig snap a very long way off. People with this power animal are often described as being swift and alert. They are intuitive, often seeming to possess well-developed, even extrasensory perceptions. Sometimes their thoughts seem to race ahead, and they appear not to be listening, to be somewhere else. Anyone with power animal has latent clairvoyant and clairaudient abilities.

When a Deer totem enters your world, a new innocence and freshness in about to be awakened. New adventures are just around the corner and there will be an opportunity to express the gentle love that will open new doors for you.

The last paragraph speaks of innocence, freshness, new adventures, and the opening of doors. This is the essence of Jupiter in its home sign of Sagittarius. While I typically prefer all things Scorpio, this last round of Jup in Scorp was stymied by Pluto’s current transit in Capricorn. Jupiter can be more playful and light in whimsical, kindhearted Sag.

May your Mercury Retrograde be kind and your journey be abundant with the promise of love, adventure, and gentility.

Black Squirrel Morning

UPDATE: I glanced outside my window on this hot, almost – summer evening and spotted a black squirrel! It has been  quite some time since I have noticed one and I am delighted! This curious sighting reminded me of how popular this old post has become! Thank you for reading my “communing with creature ” musings as they are sacred to me.

Wishing you a Black Squirrel Evening!

Now that we are in the thick of the liminal season, I know Where the Wild Things Are. They are in my backyard and in my dreams. While I continue to seek the identity of my permanent animals totems and the rest of my ” Team”, I can always rely on the natural world to provide temporary guidance. With Dexter by my side and Jasmine before him, I am more solid, more kind, and more engaged in general. Creatures make me a much better person.

So I present you with a few recent sightings that come to bring me blessings, which I in turn, will share with you :

On a mid October Friday morning the energy was quite vivid, with plenty of animal magic. Every morning one of the first things I do is draw the shades in my dining room. They open to my backyard which is an extension of the Wissahickon woods. This is part of our phenomenal Fairmount park system. Oh how blessed I am to live in such a gorgeous place.

There are always stirrings of some sort each and every morning. I often ponder if these creatures are all standing still until I wake up, ready to scamper about as soon as I give the go ahead! Reminds me of quantum theory that says objects are not in sight until the observer is viewing them. hmm?

So the first creature I notice is a very rich black. Is it a cat? No. What then? It is a dark black squirrel. What??

Voila!!

Isn’t he a beauty? I do not ever remember seeing a black squirrel before, so I researched to see if they even exist outside of my imagination. This is what I found:

Black. The color of mystery and the unknown. The color of trust. Squirrels can be one of the more trusting of wild creatures and will sometimes come and take food from an open hand. Trust. So the black squirrel comes to tell me to trust that I am in the right place, doing the right thing.

This is so comforting to me as I have felt quite lost and disappointed after not being hired for the research program. Black squirrel was waiting to tell me to trust my path.

A few minutes later  a bird ricochets against the window. I walk over to see if the bird survived, when I spotted 2 small deer slowly cross my back yard. I was surprised by their relaxed demeanor. Here is what I discovered :

The deer is linked to the arts, specifically poetry and music in ancient Celtic animal lore due to its graceful form. The Celts also believed that deer were associated with the fairie realm, and would lead troops of fairies – hundreds of them trailing behind them as the stag cut a path through the forest.

I see this as in invitation to allow more fantasy and childlike wonder into my life. Why not fairies? Why not be more open and consider that imagination and creativity can unleash infinite worlds into existence ? Since there were 2 of them, perhaps that could signify embracing the duality inherent in the arts and the natural world. Or it could mean to use creativity in relationship with others.  Here’s to an extra ladle ( or 2) of Neptune soup!

I am including my darling red cardinal because he has been a loyal visitor for years. He even inspired my poem on Grace here.

The cardinal’s bright red plumage also calls you to open yourself to creative energy. Have you been feeling blocked or dull lately? Are you looking for a new way to express yourself? Call on the cardinal to help you open up and get your creativity flowing again. The red feathers link it with fire, the element of activity, vitality, and passion. If you are feeling lethargic, the cardinal may lend you its energy to help you get back on your feet. Likewise, it can be a good bird with whom to work if you are struggling to handle depression. If you are having difficulty dealing with anger, however, seeing a cardinal may remind you to take a step or two back.

Red is the color of the root chakra, the energy center associated with stability, survival, and security, and feeling unsettled in any of these areas may be influencing your anger issue. Examine the areas of your life connected to these subjects for clues to the source of your emotional state, and move to make them better.

I can definitely relate to periods of time where vitality was low and sadness was prominent. I also know that my root chakra is in need of some extra healing and balancing. I think the cardinal could come in handy when faced with writer’s block as well!

This past Monday night I had a dream where a few people were in charge of many animals, They were mainly cats, dogs, and rabbits. I was instructed to  move some of the animals. I went immediately to lift this guy!

wikipedia.org public domain

Once I got hold of him, he scratched and bit me on the hand. I then woke up shortly thereafter. Since I rarely dream of rabbit and am a definite bunny fan, I wanted to discover any  and all possible messages. Here are some highlights:

To see a rabbit in your dream signifies luck, magical power, and success. You have a positive outlook on life. Alternatively, rabbits symbolize abundance, warmth, fertility and sexual activity.

If the rabbit is hopping in your dream, then it indicates fertility. You will be surrounded by children. Alternatively, the dream may be analogous to your lack of commitment and how you jump from one thing or another. If you dream that the rabbit scratches or bites you,  then it means that you need to pay more attention to your personal relationship or love life.

I am very intrigued and excited by Rabbit medicine. Success, abundance, and romance have not been on the menu lately, or at least not in a form that I would consider consistent. I do feel hopeful about my future as I embark on yet another Solar return. In my experience, the symbolic always trumps logic. This realm has the ability to cut through the crap and fully engage the soul.

Here’s to more Black Squirrel mornings, where the impossible is real and rarity is revered and appreciated.

Grasshopper Riding Shotgun

Photo1205

Howdy litebeings,

I am continuing to digest this past summer as we swirl into Scorpio season next week ( woohoo!). Early August found me immersed in animal magick and it was truly wonderful to behold.

photo1253

Since it  is likely that I will be trading in my purple car soon, I am glad that the featured photos present my faithful ” Sascha ” in all her glory.

Photo1202

Photo1203

On 8-4-16 I  found a grasshopper on my car on windshield. It rode with me all the way to work, hanging on even at 60 mph on a busy freeway. He ( or she) hung out all day at work in the parking lot ( where I took a few photos).  Grasshopper later accompanied me back all the way from work and stayed a couple more hours upon my arrival home. It was astonishing to me as I have not experienced anything like this before.

On 8-6-16 after reading Shelley’s grasshopper post where she responds to my otter post for inspiration, I see a large otter in my backyard. It is practically screaming for me to take its pic. So I go outside to do so and it immediately moves away. I took a shot anyway, hoping to capture the moment.

Photo1206

Then on 8-13-16 I found a gray feather by my car while parked at home. Two days later I spot another gray feather at my office parking lot. A couple of weeks later I discovered a blueish gray feather in my front yard. Here is a shot of the gray feathers. The blue one vanished before I was able to photograph it.

Reflections:

I found myself mesmerized by the grasshopper and began to develop an attachment to it. I was relating to it as if it was my companion, in a Dexterly fashion. The symbolism for grasshopper is very strongly rooted in mysticism and resonated with me very deeply:

The grasshopper chooses those of us who are innovators, forward-thinkers, and those who progress in life by unorthodox methods. This is because grasshopper symbolism recognizes tremendous leaps of faith, impressive jumps in progress and consistent forward momentum. Those with this totem are likely to aim high, and achieve amazing feats – they take great leaps where others fear to tread (or jump, in this case).

Another special feature of the grasshopper totem is that it calls to those who have natural clairvoyant abilities. Just as the grasshopper uses thousands of tiny eyes to formulate the “big picture” so too do those whom the grasshopper is called. In other words, those with this totem are visionaries. They see things intuitively, seeing beyond what the concrete world holds, and they use this special vision to see the world with a childlike wonder.

I have blogged about the otter before and have appreciated all the otter love from readers.  I can definitely relate to their quirky, unconventional nature and admire their ability to be playful. I cannot be certain though that I was spotting otters, or another species such as beaver, groundhog, or muskrat. Or perhaps another unidentified creature that shares similar traits. I will continue to focus on noticing whomever crosses my path with the intention of seeking wisdom in their messages. Indigenous cultures revered the natural world and I see this practice becoming more critical now than ever before.

The awareness of the extraordinary residing in the ordinary is a primary part of my blog and I believe that August was very significant for me in terms of protection and guidance. The trick is to be able to discern the messages and apply them with reverence and care.

Black Squirrel Morning

There have been a plethora of creatures afoot in my world lately. I woke up feeling peaceful this morning, immediately drew the shades and spotted a black squirrel. Here’s a beloved old article about our animal friends.

Gratitude on the Move

Update 6-2-15:  A few hours after today’s full moon I saw a bunny and it was hoppin’. Not sitting still like a bump on a log, not this critter. He (or she) was gray and white and on the move. Seems like a good sign to me!

With the help of some friends seen and unseen, I uncovered some pre-weekend gratitude for your enjoyment and inspiration:

Animal Guides ~ Terms of En-deer-ment

wikipedia.org public domain

get-attachment (76)

We are interrupting our regularly scheduled post ( which is a goodie I promise) to bring you a very important post that must be published now. That’s because the deer are back!

On my blogiversary I mentioned a trio of possible animal guides to accompany me throughout 2015 or longer. They are tiger, owl, and deer. I will conclude that all three have been showing up while awake rather consistently. I am not aware of any recent dreamtime sightings at this point.

Some readers might recall that I had an extraordinary deer sighting in January that was rather unprecedented. I spotted 6 deer in my backyard during the light of day. That was wild and very exciting. This memory stayed with me strongly and powerfully.

Well, what about today, you ask? Well it has been weeks since I took a nature walk in my neighborhood due to the extreme cold and icy/snowy conditions. Today it was sunny and in the fifties so I decided it was time to head out and clear my head. I forgot to take my phone and I did not expect to need it anyway. I am taking my time, enjoying the trees and the fresh air. I held on to a few branches for a while just to take in their energy. It was wonderful. So as I head back I notice a large dog crossing the road and moving towards me.

Well it was not a dog after all. It was a small deer. It began to slowly walk towards me. It was moving towards me unafraid , approximately 40 feet away.  I was delighted but very surprised. Eventually it moved behind some houses. As I moved up the hill I noticed it was gathered with a few more deer next to one of the houses. They were all standing still and looking right at me. I silently sent out love to them and smiled. While walking further up the incline I noticed another small group of deer on the other side of the house. So I was in contact with approximately 6-8 deer in bright daylight. We were just a few yards away from one another. It was a revelation! This lasted maybe a minute or two and then a car drove up the hill. Then the deer fled back to the woods as quickly as they could. I began to briefly wonder if I even saw them at all. That thought receded back into the ethers. I rather quickly regrouped and realized that I am being guided in a very dramatic fashion. After such an isolating period , it seems as if nature is carrying me and protecting me.

I learned from research online that deer signify the Easterly direction in Native American culture. So I searched some more to discover more about the Eastern direction. I found this description  here.

East (Yellow) – The direction from which the sun comes. Light dawns in the morning and spreads over the earth. This is the beginning of a new day. It is also the beginning of understanding because light helps us see things the way they really are. On a deeper level, East stands for the wisdom helping people live good lives. Traditional people rise in the morning to pray facing the dawn, asking God for wisdom and understanding.

Then I perused the sacred internet highway for more deer symbology. I “stumbled ” upon some information that really rang true. Here are some excerpts that resonated for me. I highlighted some of the most charged passages in italics:

By observing the ways in which deer behave, it is possible to see what amazing qualities – or powers – they possess. From the deer we can learn that the gift of gentleness and caring can help us overcome and put aside many testing situations. Only love, both for ourselves and for others, helps us understand the true meaning of wholeness.

If a deer crosses your path, this may show you that you are a very compassionate, gentle and loving person. If you don’t have these qualities, then consider if you have a problem that needs addressing. Are you facing a challenge in your life, whether with a fellow human being or a delicate situation? If you are feeling negative emotions such as anger, try letting go. Think about whether a gentler and more loving approach can sort the issue out. It may be necessary to speak the truth, this is best done with kindness and from the heart, this will generally give a better result.

Deer teaches us how powerful it is to be of gentle demeanour, to exert keen observation and sensitivity. Deer’s are in tune with nature and all it comprises. They are sacred carriers of peace and show those with this power animal how to open their hearts and love unconditionally.

They are intuitive, often seeming to possess well developed, even extrasensory perceptions. Sometimes their thoughts seem to race ahead, and they appear not to be listening, to be somewhere else. Anyone with power animal has latent clairvoyant and clairaudient abilities. They can see between the shadows, detect subtle movements and hear that which is not being uttered. Ask the deer to help you develop these true gifts.

Deer teaches us to be gentle, to touch the hearts and minds of wounded beings who are in our lives. Don’t push people to change, rather gently nudge them in right direction, with the love that comes from deer. Love and accept people as they are. The balance of true power lays in love and compassion.

When a Deer totem enters your world, a new innocence and freshness in about to be awakened. New adventures are just around the corner and there will be an opportunity to express the gentle love that will open new doors for you.

This deer encounter literally stopped me in my tracks. I am so in awe that I was able to commune with these un-deerlike deer. They were not afraid or squeamish. If that car did not show up, we may still be hanging out together now!

I am excited for new beginnings and a heightening of my gentility and loving nature.  Less and less judgement to be replaces with increasing compassion and forgiveness. I have been around the block long enough to know as above so below and without is within. The bigger questions is, can I implement this practice as we navigate these currently choppy waters?

Moving at the Speed of Lite

wikiart.org pub domain

I don’t know what to make of 2015 so far. My Sun is now in the 1st house, yet I did not feel the usual Ascendant return bounce. My body is ailing and I am just going with the flow, letting it ride.

Time Warp

Time speeds up, then it slows down. The slowdown is not the kind you notice in the middle of a boring staff meeting or while sitting in traffic. It is when time appears to stop and you wonder if perhaps your clock needs a new battery? It has become commonplace for me to look at the clock and say ” How can it still be 2:00 PM? It seems so much later.” This is kinda new to me, not like the sensation of the years quickly racing by. I have acclimated to that by now. This experience is unique. Sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes it freaks me out a bit. Anyone else have this happen to them lately?

I Get So Emotional Baby Every Time I Think of You

I am releasing emotions in a way that seems to be healing. Waves of sadness wash over me and occasionally the inner observer will appear and watch it all unfold. I have been thinking about Whitney Houston and her daughter Bobbi Kristina. Reflecting on how astrology can assist me in predicting probable outcomes I rather not see. When I first discovered Whitney was a Pisces Rising years ago, I thought to myself ” problems with addiction.” Yet when I watched her interview on TV, this young Whitney seemed so confident and in charge ( Leo Sun, Aries Moon). I am not saying that one particular chart placement causes a definite outcome. When someone becomes so famous so quickly, they are more susceptible to negative outside influences. Frankly I think I just had an intuition about her.

When I saw Bobbi Kristina with her parents on a televised performance, I looked at her intensely  for some time. I asked myself ” What will become of her, who is raising her?” This is before news of Whitney’s addiction became public knowledge,  So here we are and this poor young woman is in a coma 3 years after the tragic loss of her mother. It is fascinating to see that both Whitney and Bobbi had Chiron conjunct each other’s Sun. This double Chiron whammy may help shed some light on their relationship and why I wondered who was raising her.

I was listening to Whitney perform ” Didn’t We Almost Have It All” tonight and thought about many things at once. I thought about how one of my favorite singers once had it all and she lost it. I thought about how I lost so much over the past few years and don’t know what is in front of me. Mostly I remembered first hearing the line ” A moment in the soul can last forever.” I was intensely in love at the time , and also knew the relationship was not going to last very long. But it would live in my soul forever. Forever is a long time!

So here I am wailing away on my couch, knowing that most of this emotion has nothing to do with anything I listed. It is all about this moment. Dexter slowly gets up from his corner, saunters up to me and jumps on my lap and climbs up on me. I felt his love and marveled at the exquisite timing of this moment. What a blessing he is, that Dexter.

Chicken And the Egg

Dreams are popping off the charts with rich meaning in some novel ways. Tons of creature dreams: owls are making a decent showing, along with squirrels and more. I also recently dreamed I went to a healer who had a huge butterfly on her office wall and it was in motion. The header and post images are paintings that match the bounty of nature in all aspects of my consciousness.

The art of cooking has become therapeutic for me lately and the end products are really good. Since I am not a good cook typically, I am in awe when a few simple ingredients come out so delicious and bright. Speaking of food, I have become obsessed with eggs. Cooking them different ways, noticing oddities in the yolks, even dreaming about them. Eggs are about life and promise.

Action is Evident ” Backstage”

There is an enormity of movement within the confines of stagnation. The big picture seems so far away and I am letting my job search go for a few months. I just need a break. Yet I have been blessed with some new astrology clients and when I conduct the sessions, I am thrilled to be in that moment. I feel so lucky to be able to work this way with people and offer them some new insights into their life journeys. I also marvel at how great new people show up out of nowhere. Some readers may recall that I have an interest in genealogy. I have done some preliminary research but have not made much headway. Well a few evenings ago I met with a genealogist and we are bartering genealogy research for an astrology consult. We met at a party of a mutual friend and made a nice connection. While sitting with her at the meeting, I thought to myself, how exciting it is when my desires come to fruition without me even trying. I will keep you updated on my progress, but I expect this research will be a lengthy project.

While this post is a bit all over the place, there is a solidifying theme: within the stagnation, much is at work behind the scenes ( Mercury retrograde in my 12th house). Most of the symbols in waking and dream time are elusive, but a few are beginning to provide some clues. I am now noticing 222, 333, and 444 regularly with the occasional 555, 666, and 777 ( jackpot!).  My meditations have been interesting as well and I plan to post some art I am creating in a later post that will illustrate a rather memorable inner adventure.

Is is possible that the Universe is conspiring in everyone’s favor even when we may appear to be restricted or confined? Could it be that we are being slowed down so we can integrate and assimilate more of the new experiences that are being introduced through the new energies?

Spiritual Development: The Otter Returns!

This blog is about noticing and celebrating the extraordinary in the ordinary, the miraculous in the familiar, and sharing how these experiences transform my daily life. About seventeen months in, I can clearly say, this has been quite a ride!

With all the excitement and adventure and joy, there has also been many disappointments, obstacles, conflicts, and losses. Lately I have been feeling very overwhelmed, fatigued, dis-eased,  confused, and sad. This weekend I have taken some time to work on my mood.  I meditated, took a walk, listened to an interview about Angels on the Hay House Summit, prayed, talked with friends,  chilled with Dexter, and watched Super Soul Sunday. I asked Source to solve my latest array of inevitable problems for me as I know they are beyond my control. I also asked for signs of guidance.

Yesterday a sweet red bird came up on my terrace, but Dexter reacted quite strongly and the bird took flight in a hurry. Then just a few minutes ago, I saw a rather large squirrel-like creature walk across my back yard. Upon further investigation, I noticed it was an otter.

About 1 year ago around The Summer Solstice, I had my first otter sighting and blogged about it here. It has become one of my more popular posts, thanks! So I am taking this opportunity to re-post some otter information, and then combine it with a random passage from Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth  to gain some clarity into my current situation.

Here’s a picture of an Otter and some background on its nomenclature and symbolism:

Otter

The word otter derives from the Old English word otor or oter. This, and cognate words in other Indo-European languages, ultimately stem from the Proto-Indo-European language root *wódr̥, which also gave rise to the English word “water”.[1][2]

An otter’s den is called a holt or couch. A male otter is a meowter, a female is a queen, and a baby is a pup.[3][4] The collective nouns for otters are bevy, family, lodge, or romp, (being descriptive of their often playful nature) or, when in water, raft.

Otter Power Animal

Otter’s medicine includes woman’s healing wisdom, sensibility without suspicion, guidance in revealing ones talents, psychic awareness, faithfulness, recovery issues, understanding the value of playtime, primal feminine energy, joy, playfulness, prognostication

There are 2 kinds of Otter, the river and sea otter. They are linked to the primal feminine energies of life – the elements of both Earth and Water are present in Otter medicine.

Otters are regarded as the masters of play by the Native American and Celtic cultures. Observing an individual otter or a family of otters shows us that it’s possible to view life as a game to be enjoyed, rather than a burden to be endured. Living is not painful, it’s a gift. Life is too short to worry so much. When you were younger, like most children, did you feel like you didn’t want to become old and didn’t want life to get serious, or maybe you wished you could grow up and then once you became an adult wished you could relive your childhood as life was too serious now? Are you now too serious? If yes then otter is just right for you for you will be shown how to play again, it will help you find your inner child.

Native American Zodiac Meanings

Otter: Jan 20 – Feb 18
A little quirky, and unorthodox, the Otter is a hard one to figure sometimes. Perceived as unconventional, the Otter methods aren’t the first ones chosen to get the job done. This is a big mistake on the part of others – because although unconventional, the Otter’s methods are usually quite effective. Yes, the Otter has unusual way of looking at things, but he/she is equipped with a brilliant imagination and intelligence, allowing him/her an edge over every one else. Often very perceptive and intuitive, the Otter makes a very good friend, and can be very attentive. In a nurturing environment the Otter is sensitive, sympathetic, courageous, and honest. Left to his/her own devices, the Otter can be unscrupulous, lewd, rebellious, and isolated.

Eckhart Tolle ~ A New Earth Passage

On page 148 in caps it reads, HOW THE PAIN – BODY FEEDS ON DRAMA

Pain – bodies love intimate relationships and families because this is where they get  most of their food. It is hard to resist another person’s pain – body that is determined to draw you into a reaction. …. It is raw emotion looking  for more emotion.  The other person’s pain body wants to awaken yours so that both pain – bodies can mutually energize each other.  ….  It is almost unbearably painful for a young child to have to witness the emotional violence of their parents’ pain – bodies, and yet that is the fate of millions of children all over the world, the nightmare of their daily existence.  That is also one of the main ways in which the human pain – body is passed on from generation to generation.

So what is the healing take-away from the otter symbology and Eckhart Tolle’s understanding of the pain-body? I immediately recognized that I can be way too serious and left to my own devices, my pain-body can run a muck and create more drama. I am afraid that I have also inflicted my drama onto others as a result of my pain-body being triggered. I see that adding more play into my daily routine, harnessing water and earth energies, stopping my tendency to worry in its tracks, and continuing to nurture my inner-child are strategies that will help me be calm and centered.

I want to leave you with this statement taken from Native American Zodiac Meanings for Otter: “In a nurturing environment the Otter is sensitive, sympathetic, courageous, and honest. Left to his/her own devices, the Otter can be unscrupulous, lewd, rebellious, and isolated.”

May we always remember, especially in times of perceived darkness, that we are never alone and do not have to resort to actions because we feel we have no other choice and are left to our own devices.
